Vanguard Investment Stewardship Analyst in Malvern, Pennsylvania

Vanguard’s Investment Stewardship program (https://corporate.vanguard.com/content/corporatesite/us/en/corp/how-we-advocate/investment-stewardship/index.html) acts as a voice for our investors to promote strong corporate governance focused on long-term investment returns at the companies in which our funds invest. Our Investment Stewardship program is closely aligned with Vanguard’s core purpose “to take a stand for all investors, to treat them fairly, and to give them the best chance for investment success.” Our team supports this mission by engaging with executive leadership teams and boards of directors of the companies in which the Vanguard-advised funds invest, as well as voting at shareholder meetings to make sure that investors’ interests are always a priority.

In this role, you will support corporate governance, proxy voting, and company engagement efforts by analyzing, developing, and executing proxy voting decisions while building expertise in corporate governance and the Vanguard-advised funds’ proxy voting policy.

In this role you will:

  • Develop proxy voting recommendations for Vanguard’s equity holdings. Analyze proposals against Vanguard’s proxy voting guidelines using a variety of sources including company engagement and disclosures.

  • Analyze the corporate governance and proxy voting situations of individual companies to prepare for conversations with senior officials from the funds’ portfolio companies. Prepare for and document these discussions on topics related to board composition, board oversight of strategy and risk, executive compensation, and shareholder rights.

  • Perform individual analysis of issues and elevate high priority situations for senior manager review. Present recommendations and complex ideas clearly in verbal and written form.

  • Assist with projects to enhance the research of the Corporate Governance team and partner with colleagues on improvements to quality, process and operations as needed.

  • Business or investment experience.

  • Demonstrated willingness to contribute to the overall success of the team and to Vanguard and its shareholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to function in a fast paced, ambiguous environment, managing multiple priorities and diverse responsibilities.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication

  • Strong quantitative and analytical abilities.

  • Demonstrated ability in using sound business judgement to identify risks and navigate ambiguous scenarios.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve the best results.

  • Minimum of three years related work experience.

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Pursuit of advanced degree (JD, MBA, or other) preferred.
