Saint-Gobain Software Engineer - Digital Manufacturing in MALVERN, Pennsylvania

As part of the IT Digital Manufacturing team, the IT Software Engineer, Digital Manufacturing will help serve projects relating to Production, Quality, and Maintenance within our 70+ manufacturing sites throughout North America.

Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Industrial Applications, the Software Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and delivering scalable solutions on the backbone of Ignition and its integrated MES system, Sepasoft. This role contributes to CertainTeed’s digitization and digital transformation of all processes across CertainTeed’s diverse product lines.-

This role will be mentored and grow into an engineering expert within the systems and functions relating to MES, Scada, PLC, Sensors, Historians, and Data Tagging, and have a heavy emphasis on the Ignition platform.

Software Development: Programming and troubleshooting of SCADA and MES solutions

  • Design, develop, deliver, and evolve MES HMI and Mobility solutions

  • Advocate for high-quality Ignition/Sepasoft practices, standards and leading by example

  • Participate in rotating on-call shifts and on-the-floor Production Operation support to ensure rapid problem-solving and efficient operations in a 24/7 factory environment

  • Collaborate with a diverse team across Manufacturing, Operations, Quality, Controls, Product, and other related teams

  • SCADA System Design: Develop and design SCADA systems using the Ignition platform to meet project requirements through a standardized approach

  • Collaborate with internal and business project teams to understand system specifications and design user-friendly HMI interfaces

  • Write and troubleshoot scripts, SQL queries, and logic to integrate data sources, SAP, and automated processes

  • Integration and Networking: Integrate SCADA systems with various industrial devices, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and other process control systems

  • Troubleshoot and optimize communication protocols to ensure seamless data exchange

  • System Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and updates to SCADA systems to ensure optimal performance and adhesion to cyber security requirements

  • Identify and address system issues promptly, minimizing downtime and disruptions to plant operations

  • Documentation: Create comprehensive documentation for SCADA system designs, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures

  • Keep documentation up to date through version control with system changes, updates, and improvements

  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including project managers, electrical and automation engineers, and operators, to deliver successful SCADA projects

  • Provide training and support to end-users as needed.

Business Process Expertise and Best Practices

  • Design business process and document system integration points

  • Develop and/or support the creation of presentations that deliver succinct/concise recommendations to management teams

  • Promotes process optimization in processes and tools. Initiates and provides ad hoc training on new tools relating to engineering

  • High School Diploma/GED required.

  • Bachelor's Degree in IT or related field OR relevant experience in the required field.

  • 5+ years’ experience with Ignition including experience with design, development, and support

  • 5+ years' experience with Python Scripting at an expert level

  • 5+ years’ experience in Sepasoft, SQL, java programming, C programming

  • Plant Infrastructure understanding along with the Flow of Machine Data

  • Manufacturing SCADA or other PLC related systems exposure

  • Understanding of MES applications

  • Strong business process expertise in Manufacturing, Quality, and Plant Maintenance

  • Strong IT security understanding.

  • Strong judgment, standards of excellence, and exceptional analytical ability.

  • Ability to work independently and across multiple distinctive teams
