Bowery Residents Committee Clinical Engagement Coordinator - 55 West 110th Street in Manhattan, New York

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To provide the best daily support and interventions to persons experiencing a range of behaviors and symptoms, the Clinical Engagement Coordinator will participate in a multi-disciplinary team comprised of medical, clinical, and direct support professionals.

  • Provide effective and evidence-based daily support and interventions to persons experiencing a range of behaviors and symptoms.

  • Commitment to engaging individuals in a client-centered approach while providing services to address the varied needs of individuals experiencing homelessness.

  • Provide support to clients adjusting to the facility setting, including providing orientation for new clients, setting expectations and discussing available resources Provide individual follow-up as needed.

  • Assist in providing supervisory oversite of frontline operations and case management staff.

  • Directly assist in ensuring the safety of persons served during critical moments by using verbal de-escalation as a first and primary course of action prior to involving outside legal authorities.

  • Provide ongoing training for clinical, operations and security staff in de-escalation techniques and other client engagement and crisis intervention modalities. Attend train the trainer courses when needed.

  • Use Motivational Interviewing to engage and motivate clients to participate in services and activities, and to address client behavioral concerns both in and outside the facility.

  • Work with clinical teams to assist with making referrals to services for clients.

  • Utilize trauma-informed and recovery-based training, principles, and approaches to create an inspiring care environment. Manage conflict or challenging behaviors using effective conflict resolution skills with self-awareness while emphasizing client autonomy and safety.

  • Conduct in-service workshops on related topics to staff, such as, conflict resolution, assessments and client engagement and safety. Create and maintain QA procedures. Related duties as assigned.

HOURS:

Full-time 37.5 hours per week

  • Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:30pm

QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor’s degree preferred or a minimum of three years direct experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, mental illness and substance abuse issues required. Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing, conflict resolution and/or other related best practices preferred. Must have the ability to work in a high stress/ high volume environment, while maintaining open communications with the team. Bilingual abilities a plus. Proficiency computer literacy required. CPR training certification or ability to complete CPR certification training.
