Job Title: Forklift Operator

Job Description

As a Yard Hand, you will be responsible for the safe movement of products in the lumber yard. Your primary duties will include loading and unloading materials to assist in rebuilding surrounding communities. The materials handled are used for residential and commercial properties, including windows, doors, and various wood supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload materials, including windows, doors, and wood supplies.

  • Spend 60% of the time loading and unloading materials and 40% operating large forklifts.

  • Meet and greet community members and customers to assist with material pickup.

  • Build loads, load trucks (both company and customer vehicles), and maintain an efficient, clean, and safe lumberyard.

  • Provide excellent customer service by assisting with material selection and loading.

  • Accurately pull and stage materials for pickup or delivery to ensure schedules are met.

  • Maintain inventory by conducting cycle counts, keeping the yard organized, and ensuring correct material shipment and receipt.

  • Properly use and maintain all equipment.

  • Commit to continued learning on products, packages, and procedures.

  • Follow all applicable safety rules and procedures.

  • Follow all applicable sales and inventory management rules and procedures.

  • Accurately distribute and place building materials as indicated on order tickets.

  • Ensure pulled products are neatly placed and orderly.

  • Clean up and properly dispose of all debris.

  • Take initiative to complete tasks without being asked.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in order pulling, handling, production, heavy equipment operation, forklift operation, picking, general labor, warehouse work, hand tools, power tools, remodeling, packaging, and manufacturing.

  • Knowledge of all applicable building material products.

  • Previous experience in a customer service environment.

  • Ability to follow safe methods of transporting material from delivery vehicles to the point of stocking/delivery.

  • Capability and certification to operate forklift equipment.

  • Computer literacy and knowledge of current office technology.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma (nice to have but not required).

Work Environment

Work is performed in the yard, exposed to all elements. The job requires working outside in all weather conditions. In case of snow, communication will be made to ensure safety and inform employees not to report.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Black Mountain, North Carolina.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00
