About this position:

This position provides physical effort to accomplish a variety of manual tasks and skilled light equipment operation.

NOTE REGARDING THE ADVERTISED PAY:

The actual starting salary may be in the range of $13.11- $15.00depends on the experience of the selected applicant.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

No experience or training is required.

NOTE:

May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver's license or commercial driver's license.

Job Concepts

Function of Work:

To operate light mobile equipment to accomplish transportation, maintenance, or construction tasks.

Level of Work:

Experienced.

Supervision Received:

General from a Foreman or other supervisor or administrator or higher level maintenance personnel.

Supervision Exercised:

May exercise leadworker responsibility over laborers or other lower graded personnel.

Location of Work:

May be used by all agencies, statewide.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from laboring classes by the requirement to operate light mobile equipment and/or vehicles as a primary, regular, and recurring duty.

Differs from Mobile Equipment Operator 1 by the restriction to primary operation of lighter mobile equipment.

Examples of Work

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Equipment Operation – 70%

• Operates motorized equipment, including scag zero turning radius commercial riding lawn mowers, push lawnmowers, weed trimmers, other equipment to support operations under the jurisdiction of the Authority, etc.

• Operates small handheld power equipment such as polesaws, chainsaws, etc

• Operates portable concrete mixer and assists in concrete repairs, as necessary.

• Drives crew trucks towing trailers on and between work sites.

• Performs a wide variety of physical labor functions, such as moving, loading and unloading materials, supplies and equipment.

• Performs daily safety and maintenance checks on equipment prior to beginning work.

• Reports to supervisor any required repairs needed on equipment. • Reports to supervisor any noted damage to levee system such as ruts and depressions, erosion, slope failure, animal burrowing, seepages, etc.

• Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Equipment Maintenance – 20%

• Assists mechanic with minor repairs to equipment as required, including disassembling and reassembling parts, lubricating and fueling equipment, etc.

• Assists in performing scheduled preventive maintenance on equipment as required, including fluid and filter changes, parts lubrication, etc.

• Assists in performing scheduled winterizing of equipment as required, including washing, painting, etc.

• Ensures adherence to safe work practices and procedures on a daily basis when operating assigned equipment.

• Performs inspections and maintenance on flood control structures within Authority jurisdiction.

• Assists Foreman A in ensuring minor repairs are performed and routine user maintenance is completed as scheduled and/or required.

• Cleans equipment as scheduled and/or required.

• Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Emergency Response and Other Duties – 10%

• Acts as leadworker on crews as required.

• Performs labor duties during off-season and inclement days by cutting trees, picking up paper and trash, using mowers and weed trimmers, making sandbags, etc.

• Reports to work during emergency events as needed and remains on site until emergency has subsided. Maintains on site preparations in order to be available on call as emergency conditions require.

• Performs emergency response activities as outlined in the Emergency Operations manual.

• Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor
