Job Description

The Iowa Veterans Home is seeking an excited, motivated RN interested in growing their leadership skills while leading a team of Nursing staff on the night shift.

This Nursing Supervisor has shift specific accountability for nursing personnel in the management of healthcare delivery in his/her assigned area while spending 50% of their time working side by side with their staff providing licensed coverage on the unit. Makes frequent rounds in the assigned coverage area providing support, assisting in problem solving, and monitoring clinical competencies. Works with peers to ensure leadership coverage Monday through Friday with the occasional weekend rotation. Has the option of working four 10 hour shifts each week. At times, covers as a house supervisor acting as a resource for all nursing staff in the facility. Utilizes resources so that available programs/assistance is provided to staff. Will participate in activities of professional growth so that current skills and knowledge are enhanced.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

1) All of the following (a, b, and c):

a. Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa by the Iowa Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact Administrator’s Agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing; and b. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in nursing; and c. One year of full-time professional clinical work experience in a correctional environment or in any combination of nursing specialty areas including epidemiology, geriatrics, maternal and child health, nursing education, pediatrics, public health, mental health or psychiatrics, or intellectual disability.

2) All of the following (a and b):

a. Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa by the Iowa Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact Administrator’s Agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing; and b. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in nursing.

3) All of the following (a, b, and c):

a. Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa by the Iowa Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact Administrator’s Agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing; and b. One year of full-time professional clinical work experience in a correctional environment or in any combination of nursing specialty areas including epidemiology, geriatrics, maternal and child health, nursing education, pediatrics, public health, mental health or psychiatrics, or intellectual disability; and c. A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in part b), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in nursing equals one year of full-time experience.
