TITLE: Automation Technician

REPORTS TO: Sr. Controls Engineer

SUPERVISES: None

JOB CLASS : Hourly

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY:

This position maintains, troubleshoots, modifies, upgrades, programs, installs, and repairs plant production equipment with an emphasis on PLCs, HMIs, robotics, and vision.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Troubleshoot, install, modify, upgrade and repair plant production equipment including:

  • PLCs, HMIs, robots, vision, AC/DC circuits and drives, I/O devices

  • Create/write PLC programs for new plant equipment.

  • Understand, annotate, and modify existing PLC programs while having limited supporting documentation.

  • Troubleshoot robotics systems and applications

  • Design, setup, and program human machine interfaces

  • Integrate new levels of automation into existing processes

  • Collaborate with Engineers and Technicians to design and apply new system processes

  • Optimize machine performance electrically to maximize overall equipment effectiveness

  • Design and implement control enhancements to maximize product quality

  • Assist the maintenance staff in diagnosing problems with manufacturing equipment and implementing solutions

REQUIRED JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent people & communication skills, both written and verbal. Must possess professional demeanor when communicating by e-mail, radio, telephone, meetings and personal

  • Must freely share knowledge & skills with other personnel

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

  • Good planning and organizational skills

  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Knowledge of Allen Bradley PLCs and human machine interfaces

  • Knowledge of Omron PLCs and human machine interfaces considered a plus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Visual aptitude - must be able to see, with or without correction

  • Communication - ability to communicate verbally or non-verbally

  • Must be able to lift minimum of 50 Lbs.

  • Ability to perform a standing job for 12 consecutive hours

  • Must be able to walk, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, reach, and grasp for varying periods of time during a consecutive 12-hour period

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • 2-year tech degree with 2-years experience OR 7-years experience in industrial plant environment highly involved with electrical equipment (in lieu of education)

  • Demonstrated excellence in troubleshooting and repair of plant equipment including:

  • PLCs, HMIs, robotics, vision, drives
