Description:
Reporting to the Regional Chief Clinical Officer, the Manager of Clinical Research Operations provides leadership for the overall operation of clinical research within the hospital system to ensure that clinical research operations are organized, coordinated, and of the highest quality. Serve as the primary liaison with Loyola University of Chicago (LUC) leadership and research teams. Responsible for pursuing quality and efficiency initiatives in research related operations at Loyola Medicine.
Position Responsibilities:
Strategic: In collaboration with LUMC and LUC leadership, establish and execute strategic objectives for Clinical Research Operations. Provide, communicate, and implement strategic, operational and programmatic plans and policies to achieve the mission, vision and values of Loyola Medicine.
Human Resources Management: Responsible for directing the department of Clinical Research staff. Recruit, orient, develop and supervise staff. Establish orientation, training and continuing education programs to ensure competency of staff. Ensure that job requirements and goals for each position are clear to employees. Provide and coordinate education for Clinical Research staff through structured presentations and unstructured interactions. Train and supervise staff on standard operating procedures. Collaborate with clinical services to ensure integration and understanding of the complementary roles of clinical research and clinical management.
Research Management: Serve as a liaison to Organizational Integrity, Office of the General Counsel, Clinical Departments, LUC Office of Research Services, and LUC clinical researchers, including the Clinical Research Office and Cancer Center Clinical Trials Office. Advocate and resolve operational issues; escalate to leadership as warranted for further mitigation. Provide oversight of research administrative processes including feasibility assessments, institutional approval, and coverage analysis. Coordinate and integrate inter/intra departmental services. Collaborate with Revenue Integrity to support research related patient care billing and invoicing.
Financial/Planning: Collaborate with institutional finance leaders to prepare, coordinate, evaluate and manage annual fiscal operating and capital equipment budgets for the Clinical Research department. Conduct fiscal analysis and monitor fiscal utilization of scope of services. Forecast resource needs including planning for staff, space, IT support and all resources necessary for an effective and efficient organizational structure to support clinical research operations.
Compliance/Legal: Interact and oversee compliance activities with the Organizational Integrity Office. Establish and maintain administrative standard operating procedures consistent with regulatory bodies, industry sponsors, HIPAA regulations, cooperative groups, accrediting bodies, etc.
Quality/Performance Improvement: Continuously assess and improve the performance of processes and services provided. Direct Quality Assessment and Improvement functions; design and implement programs which evaluate the efficacy of processes. Responsible for overall activities and quality assurance audits of office activities. Develop and deliver training to research personnel and clinical areas as needed.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree OR equivalent training acquired via work experience or education. Bachelor's degree is preferred.
3-5 years of previous job-related experience required.
Managerial Experience: 3-5 years
