POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: UTILITY LINE LOCATOR

DUTIES

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The essential function of the position within the organization is to support the Engineering

and Utilities Department with line locating, marking and data collection work. Make copies

of plans and specifications and assist and report to Utilities Superintendent with mapping

of utilities.

PRIMARY DUTIES: This list represents the essential tasks performed by the position.

Employees may be assigned additional duties by management as required.

Collects and retains data to perform work.

Ability to research and review utility records and identify utilities from field observation.

Read and interpret utility plans / prints to identify the type and size of underground utilities.

Accurate and organized documentation of lines located, and reports.

Accurate marking of all lines, including fire hydrants, gas, sewer, water, etc.

Ability to use GPS to locate appropriate lines.

Provides mapping of utilities.

Updates maps in conjunction with Engineering

Knowledgeable of basic engineering principles and terminology.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

MATHEMATICAL REQUIREMENTS: Mathematics deals with quantities, magnitudes,

and forms and their relationships and attributes by the use of numbers and symbols.

Uses basic algebra involving variables and formulas and/or basic geometry involving

plane and solid figures, circumferences, areas, and volumes and/or computing discounts

and interest rates.

COMMUNICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: Communications involves the ability to read,

write, and speak.

Reads simple sentences or instructions; writes simple sentences; speaks simple

sentences using basic grammar.

COMPLEXITY OF WORK: Complexity of Work addresses the analysis, initiative,

ingenuity, creativity, and concentration required by the position and the presence of any

unusual pressures.

Performs semi-routine work following procedures, with occasional problems; requires

normal attention for accurate results.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS: Impact of Decisions refers to consequences such as damage

to property, loss of data or property, exposure of the organiz ation to legal liability, or injury

or death to individuals.

Makes decisions with moderate impact - affects those in work unit and may affect public

health and safety.

EQUIPMENT USAGE: Equipment Usage refers to inanimate objects such as

substances, materials, machines, tools, equipment, work aids, or products. A thing is

tangible and has shape, form, and other physical characteristics.

Handles machines, tools, equipment, or work aids involving moderate latitude for

judgment regarding attainment of standard or in selecting appropriate items.
