PenFed is hiring a (Remote) CICS Systems Programmer associated with our Tysons, Virginia location. The primary purpose of this job is to provide daily operational and design support for the PenFed Mainframe environment that spans both infrastructure and applications which provides the core channel support for both the membership and business units. The engineers provide a high level of technical support for critical components of the mainframe including both hardware and software technologies. They also provide mentorship to engineers needing additional training and assistance in completing their tasks.

This role can be located anywhere in the United StatesThe anticipated starting salary range for this role is $74,876 to $122,638This position is eligible for the organization’s annual Balanced Scorecard bonus subject to board discretion and approval This position is also eligible for the opportunity for an annual Pay for Performance bonus

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for enterprise systems. Troubleshoot, repair and recover from basic hardware or software failures in accordance with standard operating procedures.

  • Maintain the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability.

  • Interact with senior engineers to identify areas of improvement for operational efficiency.

  • Work closely with technical and non-technical personnel within and across PenFed departments and vendors.

  • Comply with Incident Management and Change Management procedures and reporting practices.

  • Participate in on-call 24x7 support as needed in the event of system outage or failure.

  • Implement systems in a phased approach of requirements analysis, system design review, installation, integration, and testing.

  • Lead the development of product/project requirements and success criteria through collaboration with internal and external customers. Leverage these criteria and integrate business and technical knowledge when designing and developing solutions to deliver optimal, elegant solutions that meet functional and non-functional requirements while delivering the best value and user experience.

  • Provide escalation support to troubleshoot and maintain production infrastructure and to resolve production issues and outages.

  • Maintain proper documentation including configuration specifics and procedures, for implementation and ongoing operation/maintenance of infrastructure solutions.

  • Perform routine operational tasks, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, resources, systems, and key processes. Review system and application logs, and verify completion of scheduled jobs.

  • Perform systems related maintenance such as systems rebooting, patching, backups, snapshots, health monitoring, hardware/software asset management, software distribution and systems decommissioning.

  • Install, configure, test and maintain systems, application software and infrastructure tools.

  • Serve as a key team member using existing technical knowledge and have the skills to perform specific projects independently.

  • Accountable for managing all assigned tasks and projects.

  • Participate in the planning and design of an enterprise Business Continuity Plan and Disaster Recovery Plan.

  • Maintain up-to-date detailed knowledge of the IT industry as it relates to the technologies identified as primary responsibilities including awareness of new or revised solutions and improved processes.

  • Develop and maintain up-to-date baselines for the secure configuration and operations of all in-place systems.

  • Assists junior and subordinate staff in researching technical problems and complex designs in order to develop staff capabilities.

  • May be called upon to escort vendors to perform service in Ashburn,VA Datacenter.

Qualifications

Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in related field is preferred.

  • In lieu of a degree, combination of education and a minimum of three (3) years of related work experience is required that provides the necessary skills and knowledge to perform all the essential job functions.

  • Basic understanding of Network, Compute, Storage, and End-User technologies.

  • Thorough knowledge of:

  • CICS internals and structure

  • Problem determination and debugging skills including but not limited to CICS dumps and traces

  • Defining and maintaining CICS resources in WLM

  • TCP/IP in relation to CICS (e.g., Port Sharing)

  • CICSPLEX concepts and planning

  • Managing CICSPLEX resources such as workload balancing and real-time analysis

  • Defining CICSPLEX components such as CAS and CMAS

  • Configuring and defining a CICSPlex

  • Defining CICSPlex topology.

  • Managing CICS regions under CICSPlex

  • Describing the security facilities provided by CPSM

  • Working knowledge of setting up CICSPLEX/CPSM in a multimember Sysplex environment

  • CICS Performance Analyzer & reporting

  • Monitoring tools such as MainView, IBM(Omegamon), CA, TMON and able to collect and analyze performance data for potential bottleneck in order to ensure data integrity and to minimize the occurrence of errors

  • Working knowledge of C/PROF and CM (Configuration Manager ) is a plus

  • Must be fully capable of:

  • Collecting historical data for trend analysis and reporting

  • Supporting new and existing applications (a mixture of in-house and those supplied by 3rd party vendors) during all stages of the development life cycle

  • Establishing and meeting SLA(service level agreements) for CICS transactions in order to insure system performance, redundancy, and fault tolerance

  • Ability to work closely with the Application team to ensure they meet SLA's requirements for both the Legacy and the Web-enabled ones

  • Ability to ensure documentation of all related operational processes and procedures are regularly updated

  • Must have strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • This position requires 24 hours support as needed.

  • Strong interpersonal, problem solving and multi-tasking skills desired.

  • Must be capable to provide solutions to identified systems issues.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.

Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.

Travel

Ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call is required.
