DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this role, you will assess the physical capabilities and driving qualifications of applicants, as well as evaluate the mechanical condition of vehicles in accordance with established guidelines and standards. You will conduct thorough pre-trip inspections of vehicles prior to administering driving tests, ensuring that all necessary safety features, such as inspection stickers, lights, and windshield wipers, are functioning properly, while also verifying the applicant's familiarity with vehicle controls. Additionally, you will scrutinize applications, registrations, and permits for any signs of irregularities or fraudulent activity. You will be responsible for administering both the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and Non-CDL knowledge examinations, which evaluate applicants' understanding of the motor vehicle code and traffic signs, as well as their practical skills in operating a vehicle and adhering to road regulations. At the request of the Driver License Division Management Team, you will also conduct audits of Third Party Examiners to ensure compliance with contractual obligations, which may involve having the Third Party Examiner administer a CDL skills test to a Department Examiner or jointly scoring a skills test with the Third Party Examiner. Furthermore, you will administer various vision tests, including telebinocular and color perception assessments. It is imperative that you strictly follow all components of the Driver and Vehicle Services Customer Service Policy.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 80 hours bi-weekly
  • Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Overtime and travel required

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY, QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (commonwealth title); or
  • Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.

Special Requirements:

  • All positions require an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
  • All positions require no suspensions or revocations of a driver's license during the  five year period immediately preceding employment.
  • All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an  active unrestricted Class M driver's license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
  • This position requires possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the following endorsements: P and N. The Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z.
