Overview
Developmental Disabilities Institute, DDI, is one of the largest providers of care to children and adults with Autism, developmental disabilities and other special needs. DDI has been a part of Long Island for over 50 years serving over 1,500 children and adults with Autism, other developmental disabilities and special needs. DDI provides innovative and expansive services to our population through various educational setting, residential services, day habilitation programs and vocational services.
Working in DDI's Early Childhood Services division the Early Intervention Aide (ABA) works along side the Special Education Teacher and Assistants as part of the interdisciplinary team. Working in the classroom the early Early Intervention Aide (ABA) works with children with developmental disabilities on a variety of age appropriate educational goals.
Responsibilities
Set up and maintain classroom materials and supplies
Assist with bussing at arrival and dismissal
Responsible for the implementation of a child’s IFSP and progress towards goals
Implement teaching strategies utilizing principles of Applied Behavior Analysis
Collect data and document student’s progress as outlined by classroom teacher
Follow lead of classroom teacher
Implement outlined behavior treatment plans
Supervise children during classroom activities
Demonstrate knowledge of outlined curriculum and IFSP goals
Assist children in all daily living activities
Work collaboratively with classroom staff and team members
Other duties as assigned
Essential Functions
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds (child) to a height of 3 feet (place child on changing table).
Ability to carry 30 pounds (child) up to 200 feet.
Must be able to run after a child up to 200 feet.
Must be able to grasp, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.
Must be able to get up and down from floor.
Must have ability to follow oral and written directions and respond to fire alarm.
Must be able to ascend and descend stairs with railing
Qualifications
High School Diploma required
Experience working with young children preferred
