Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Director 1 Program Management to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals supporting major defense programs located at Melbourne, FL. This role will report directly to the VP Program Management and be responsible for coordinating across the program senior leadership team to manage a team of matrixed support across multiple functions.

This leader oversees and manages the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serves as liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line management. Reviews status of projects and budgets; manages schedules and prepares status reports. Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives. Develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers, line managers, and clients.

The chosen candidate will be self-driven and thrives in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, diverse assignments, rapidly evolving priorities and collaborative/team settings across all levels, including executive leadership. This position requires a high energy, strategic thinker with demonstrated ability to operate at both a strategic and a hands-on level, as needed.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Performance and oversight of a diverse multifunctional multi-site team

  • Leading and balancing direction from the Program Manager and Chief Engineer to give both technical and managerial direction to the subordinate engineering and manufacturing staff including addressing cost, schedule, technical performance, and quality of all work packages

  • Delegation of Authority responsibility for program planning and performance

  • Collaborates within multiple business units inside of Northrop Grumman as well as with multiple customer organizations

  • Represents the program as a prime internal and external contact on a diverse spectrum of program matters

  • Responsible for successful program operations and program activities of major significance

  • Directs the day-to-day operations of a cross-functional team focusing on executing strategic growth and enhancement efforts across multiple time horizons

  • Engages in strategic discussions with multiple internal and external organizations to build a roadmap and strategy related to the areas above

Successful Candidate will have demonstrated experience:

  • Leading and unifying diverse, functionally separated teams to execute towards a common goal in a cohesive manner in order to satisfy contract objectives

  • Managing software development, integration, and test, resulting in complete integrated functional capability through certification delivered to the customer

  • Developing, integrating, and operating hardware subsystems to achieve an overall platform capability through fielding

  • Working with suppliers directly, leading supplier program teams, and managing supplier performance to achieve requirements verification of capability

  • Partnering across multiple customer sets, third party government offices, and external customer stakeholders in order to certify capability for military operational use

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree and 10 years of related experience as defined below, OR a Master’s degree and 8 years of related experience as defined below

  • Related experience includes professional and/or military experience to include a background in project management, program management, engineering, capture efforts, and/or business management related functions, primarily within the Aerospace and Defense industry

  • Minimum of 5 years of in-depth experience in program/project management or technical team leadership

  • Minimum of 3 years direct experience leading teams and programs

  • Must have an active DoD Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation)

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret Clearance within reasonable timeframe to support business objectives

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within reasonable timeframe to support business objectives

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, up to 25% of the time

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI with SSBI, with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation

  • Demonstrated Program Management of significant capability development programs on cost and on schedule

  • Demonstrated experience in software development, integration, and test, resulting in complete integrated functional capability through certification delivered to the customer

  • Experience developing, integrating, and operating hardware subsystems to achieve an overall platform capability through fielding

  • Experience working with suppliers directly, leading supplier program teams, and managing supplier performance to achieve requirements verification of capability

  • Must build close customer partnerships; proven ability to leverage customer relationships to achieve and exceed program requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership experience unifying diverse, functionally separated teams to execute towards a common goal in a cohesive manner in order to satisfy contract objectives

  • Experience working with multiple customer sets, third party government offices, and external customer stakeholders in order to certify capability for military operational use

  • Demonstrated ability to interact with, and present information to, internal and external customers at the executive leadership level

  • Exceptional inter-personal skills, a collaborative management style, and an inherent drive to deliver on commitments

  • Proven ability to effectively work across multiple organizations to form teams, gain internal support, act with speed, and make tough decisions

  • Familiarity with and willingness to work in a secure environment

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent conflict management and negotiation skills

  • Experience within a service acquisition organization or element

Salary Range: $181,000 - $271,600

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
