The Worldwide Aviation Support Services (WASS) program, an AAR business, headquartered in Rockledge, FL, provides global, world-class expeditionary and conventional aviation solutions to the US Department of State Air Wing.

Role Description:

The Aircraft Component Packing and Crating Specialist constructs and repairs items such as wooden boxes, crates, pallets, and storage bins from wood and wood substitutes, studies specifications; and measures, marks, and cuts boards, using patterns, templates, ruler, pencil, and hand power tools. This worker fastens or installs parts, using hammer, nailing machine, or power drills, repairs defective containers by replacing damaged parts, inserts wood bracings, cardboard files, and padding in containers. This incumbent may build crate around object, using ruler, hand tools, power tools and pneumatic Nailer, may fabricate, repair, modify, and replace woodwork on vehicle sides and beds, apply preservative to prolong wood life, and may pack, seal, band, and apply markings to crates and containers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understands and follows company procedures and work instructions relating to the shipping process.

  • Operates hand power tools such as drills, drivers, saws, hammers in a safe and compliant manner.

  • Must be able to use a ruler, pneumatic Nailer power stapler and nailing machines and read blueprints and use same to create boxes, crates, bracing and pallets as program needs.

  • Assists in the process of shipping requisitions of materials and inventory to CONUS and OCONUS locations, as required.

  • Assures that all shipments containing hazardous or dangerous goods are packaged and handled in accordance with applicable rules and regulations.

  • Operates forklifts, pallet loaders, pallet jacks, packing machines, package scales, and other equipment related to the shipping process.

  • Tracks lumber supply usage and re-orders lumber supplies when inventory gets low.

  • Prioritize workload and have flexibility to adjust based on position requirements.

  • Tracks monthly, the number of crates built and or repaired.

  • The ability to maintain confidentiality is essential while adhering to company policies and procedures.

  • Assists in Airlift operations when needed.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Minimum (5) five years of experience with a minimum of (3) years of experience building large crates for aviation-defense articles.

  • Ability to apply job skills, policies, and procedures to complete tasks of moderate scope and complexity.

  • Exercises judgement within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action.

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Must be able to multi-task.

  • Proficient Microsoft skills Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Visio.
