Mitsubishi Chemical Methacrylates operates as the Americas Division of Mitsubishi Chemicals’ acrylic monomer business, one of ten business domains crossing a diverse portfolio of businesses within the company. Job Purpose

Develop and execute procurement strategies for assigned scope to ensure achievement Memphis Operations’ short-term goals and strategic objectives in compliance with all codes of conduct and regulatory requirements. administer strategies for sourcing, cost savings/avoidance, product & service quality, and supplier performance (each a “Category Strategy”). Conduct strategic sourcing and supplier management in harmony with the Category Strategy. Build beneficial business relationships with key departments within the MCM organizational structure, to ensure pro-active involvement by Procurement Services in planning, executing, and conducting procurement of key products and services from external suppliers.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Create and manage category strategies for each distinct group of assigned expenditures, including but not limited to goods, services and contracts for Maintenance Overhauls, Capital Projects & Equipment, Maintenance-Repair-Operations (MRO), Environment/Health/Safety Items and Rental/Leased Equipment.

  • Review category strategies with assigned manager and any department leaders impacted by, or requiring input from, to ensure such strategies are in harmony with strategic objectives of each impacted company business area. In a professional and motivational manner, provide regular and timely updates regarding progress/accomplishment of category strategies to those company leaders having a ‘need to know’.

  • Escalate to appropriate manager(s) and affected company executive management, according to severity and sensitivity, information regarding assigned category exposure to supply chain interruption, price escalation, or volume constraints.

  • Manage preparation and administration of sourcing events utilizing eSourcing technology tools available to departmental personnel, including but not limited to Request-for-Information (RFI), Request-for-Quotation (RFQ), Request-for-Proposal (RFP), and Auctions.

  • Ensure all supplier interactions are carried out in a legal, professional and ethical manner.

  • For supplier projects requiring onsite work performance, take prudent actions including conducting audits and contractor reviews to ensure compliance with company safety policies and applicable governmental regulations.

  • Negotiate with suppliers on prices, terms and conditions, agreement of technical requirements, control of quality, and the meeting of delivery to obtain the best cost and legal position possible; evaluate quotes and proposals and makes award recommendations for lowest total cost and best legal position.

  • Analyze requests for extensions or amendments to existing contracts and make recommendations of approval or alternative solutions to ensure the integrity of our legal and cost position, and compliance with internal policies.

  • Ensure proper involvement of company legal, compliance, risk management, and finance in category management strategies, supplier contracting, and supplier relationship management. Work with internal departmental leaders, assigned manager, and company Legal Counsel to develop Statement of Work (SOW) content, safety and technical requirements, delivery schedules, terms and conditions into comprehensive and competitive sourcing and contract packages to obtain competitive pricing and prudent levels of risk mitigation.

  • Work closely with Operative Buying team to ensure purchase orders are placed appropriately and timely. Resolve any purchase order issues that have been escalated by the Operative Buying team.

  • Attain a level of market knowledge and maintain a level of awareness of supplier operations as they pertain to the company for leverage and position of Methacrylates.

  • Professionally resolve problems (both internal and external) in a fair and ethical manner that maintains company’s relationship within a given market for goods or services.

Knowledge / Skills / Experience

  • BEng, B.SC, BS, B.A. or equivalent university degree required, although an internal candidate possessing a high school diploma and 15+ years of related procurement work experience plus a CPM or equivalent certification may be considered.

  • Candidate must be fluent in interpreting and understanding engineering drawings, specification sheets and equipment diagrams.

  • MBA or Master’s Degree in supply management or equivalent university degree is desirable.

  • 8+ years of extensive experience in procurement with an emphasis upon category management and/or strategic sourcing is required. Proven record of consistent cost reductions throughout career.

  • Accreditation as a Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) from Institute for Supply Management (ISM) desirable. Certification as a Certified Production and Inventory Manager (CPIM) or similar accreditation by APICS is desirable.

  • Effective personal and people relations skills, with strong ability to communicate, in both oral and written manners. Strong presentation and well-developed negotiation skills. Must be effective at influencing internally and externally and be assertive on key points.

  • Professional, disciplined and ethical in working with suppliers and colleagues.

  • Competent knowledge of Methacrylates businesses, strategies, manufacturing operations, products and organization.

  • Competent in the areas of contract construction, commercial clause and Statement of Work (SOW) drafting, contract management processes and knowledge of procurement and commercial contract law.

  • Knowledgeable about technology tools used in the Procure-to-Payment (P2P) cycle of activities.

  • The salary range for this position is $130,000 - $135,000. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
