Summary:

Meta is seeking Research Scientists to join its Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) organization, focused on making significant advances in AI. We publish groundbreaking papers and release frameworks/libraries that are widely used in the open-source community. Recent examples include the LLaMa family of Large Language Models (LLMs) and tool-augmented language models. We also collaborate with the Meta Generative AI and other organizations to bring the latest research findings to production.We are currently seeking talented researchers with experience in NLP to work with us on extending the capabilities of multimodal (vision+language) reasoning. Researchers will drive impact by: (1) publishing state-of-the-art research papers, (2) open sourcing high quality code and reproducible results for the community, and (3) bringing the latest research to Facebook products for connecting billions of users. The chosen candidate(s) will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and cross-functional partners, and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and research facilities.

Fundamental AI Research Scientist, NLP - FAIR Responsibilities:

1. Lead research that extends the capabilities of foundation models through reasoning and the use of tools

2. Work towards long-term ambitious research goals, while identifying intermediate milestones.

3. Influence progress of relevant research communities by producing publications.

4. Contribute research that can be applied to Meta product development.

5. Lead and collaborate on research projects within a globally based team.

Minimum Qualifications:

6. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

7. PhD in the field of NLP and or Machine Learning, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

8. 4+ years of industry, academic or government laboratory experience in NLP and or Machine Learning

9. First-author publications at peer-reviewed AI conferences (e.g. *ACL, EMNLP, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR).

10. Experience in training, fine-tuning, and/or experimenting with foundation models beyond black-box use.

11. Familiarity with one or more deep learning frameworks (e.g. pytorch, tensorflow, …)

12. Experience communicating complex research for public audiences of peers.

13. Knowledge in a programming language.

15. Experience in AI research beyond completing a PhD.

17. Experience in working in an industry research environment.

18. Experience in coordinating the research of PhD students or other researchers.

Public Compensation:

$177,000/year to $251,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
