Meta Software Engineer, Software Defined Networking (PhD) in Menlo Park, California

Summary:

In this role, you will be a member of the Backbone Software team at Meta. As part of this team, you will develop and own mission-critical software systems that control Petabit/s data traveling through, and millions of operations performed in, Meta's mission-critical Backbone network - one of the largest in the world. As a Software Engineer within SDN, you will be pushing the boundary of massive scale via bringing intelligent algorithms and solutions to enable ever-growing Meta's products and innovation.

Required Skills:

Software Engineer, Software Defined Networking (PhD) Responsibilities:

  1. Develop advanced traffic engineering and scheduling algorithms to control and optimize high-scale traffic and operation load for Meta's Backbone network.

  2. Enhance distributed system performance and observability to ensure effective and dependable network control and operations.

  3. Create algorithms and software solutions aimed at achieving maximum throughput, minimal congestion, and optimal availability for traffic across load-balanced paths with the lowest latency.

  4. Develop intelligent scheduling algorithms and software solutions to optimize operational throughput while maintaining network reliability.

  5. Collaborate with network engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve functional, performance, and stability issues throughout the stack.

  6. Keep abreast of the latest industry and academic research to integrate innovative solutions.

  7. Write clean, readable, and maintainable code that prioritizes debuggability and testability from the outset.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.

  2. Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.

  3. Demonstrated experience in algorithm development, performance optimization, and research interests in networking.

  4. Experience coding in an industry-standard language (e.g. C, C++, Java, Python).

  5. Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

  1. Experience with optimizing traffic and performance in networking.

  2. Knowledge of ML, linear programming.

Public Compensation:

$56.25/hour to $173,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
