  • Job Description SummaryJob Purpose: The Machinist I role is responsible for setting up and operating conventional, special purpose, numerical control machines, and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. The position is expected to assist other Machinists while learning to work more independently. Work is closely supervised and follows routine standard processes.Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiecesDemonstrate the ability to follow the sequence of operations and setup requirementsMeasures, marks, scribes dimensions, and reference points on material or workpieces as a guide for subsequent machiningSelects, aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes and grindersCalculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth and angle of cutEnters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control mediaStarts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, adjusting machine controls or control media as requiredVerifies compliance of finished workpiece to specificationsSets up and operates the machine on trial run to verify accuracy of the machine settings or the programmed control dataFits and assembles parts into complete assemblyVerifies dimensions and alignment of assemblyAbility to identify worn tooling, installing replacement inserts, grind wheels and carbide cutters on equipment and maintains daily PM as requiredCollaborates with engineers, production personnel, programmers or others to resolve machining or assembly problemsExperience with CNC controls: Fanuc, Mazatrol and Okuma OSP desiredPerforms other duties as assignedBasic Qualifications:High school diploma with up to 3 months related workplace experience; or six months vocational/technical training; or an equivalent combination of education and experienceDemonstrate the ability to accurately complete all work-related documentsUnderstand basic operating principles for all plant machineryFluency in English (read, write, comprehend)Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions and deal with problemsMust have mechanical aptitudeObserve safety and security procedures

Job Duties:

  • Working from blueprint and utilizing standard work procedures, operate screw machines to perform routine machining process.

  • Using a variety of measuring equipment and gauges, will perform quality checks according to the quality plan ensure the quality of the product produced.

  • Load bar stock into machines as required or utilize the bar loader.

  • Utilize Through-Put to ensure an accurate count of parts according to the work order. Meet or exceed production requirements or notify Team Lead or Manager as to the reason for deviation.

  • Perform all preventative maintenance and safety checks on machines.

  • Add coolant and lubrication to machine as necessary.

  • Recognize operating irregularities and machine malfunctions and troubleshoot problems to correct. If necessary, contact Team Lead for assistance.

  • Perform changes and minor adjustments of all tooling and attachments in the machine.

  • Maintain cell board to communicate machine issues or related problems.

  • Work safely at ALL times and comply with safety regulations regarding the use of protective equipment and devices.

  • Keep work area, equipment, machines, storage areas, etc. clean and orderly at all times.

  • Communicate daily with operators from other shifts, Team Lead, and Manager as to the condition of machines and or parts within your responsibility.

  • Maintain records relating to production, downtime, quality, etc.

  • Offer suggestions relative to improving productivity, process, safety, work environment, housekeeping, etc.

  • Perform other miscellaneous job duties and related functions as directed by Team Lead, Manager, or other designated person.

  • Instruct and train assigned operators on work methods, safety procedures, and proper use of equipment.

  • Must perform as a team member with the willingness and attitude to work with others to resolve problems. Must also maintain good working relationships with others within the organization. Basic Qualifications:

  • Requires the use of shop math

  • Use of blueprint reading

  • Ability to interpret measuring equipment. Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Machining experience and/or education preferred.

  • Mechanical experience

  • Demonstrated troubleshooting or repair skills.

  • Team attitude essential. Additional Information:
