Eaton’s CTO Corporate Technology Office division is currently seeking a Senior Power Electronics Specialist, Algorithms Development. This position offers relocation assistance ( US only) . You must be willing to relocate to either Southfield Michigan ... Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin .... or Raleigh, NC locations for this role.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $128250.0 - $188100.0 a year.

What you’ll do:

Job Summary

The ultimate goal is to design innovative power electronics solutions through the development of advanced controls and optimization. The incumbent will be a part of a world-class research team including internal and external partners to deliver on research and commercialization projects jointly funded by Eaton and government research agencies.

This is a unique opportunity to be a part of a transformational project developing artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) aided model-based systems engineering methods. The ultimate goal is to design innovative power electronics solutions through the development of advanced controls and optimization. This position will be involved in the product development of high voltage Converters utilized in both the automotive and aerospace sector. The incumbent will be a part of a world-class research team including internal and external partners to deliver on research and commercialization projects jointly funded by Eaton and government research agencies.

Job Responsibilities

Main functions of the role are to plan and execute R&D projects, transition learnings to inform business and technology strategies, and create organizational capabilities necessary to achieve R&D and commercial goals with focus on control algorithm development for power electronics.

The role requires extensive knowledge and experience in the classical control design space including Optimal Control.

  • Relocation to Southfield , Michigan .. Raleigh, NC.. or.. Menomonee Falls , Wisconsin is available for a candidate currently residing in the US. Sponsorship of any kind cannot be supported for this role due to governmental sensitivity.

Qualifications:

  • Completed PhD in Electrical Engineering.

  • 9+ years of experience in R&D or product design, with hands on experience in control systems development and testing in the power electronics domain

  • Must have deep understanding of academic literature and state of the art technologies in the controls space

  • Must have extensive experience in embedded systems hardware and software(Microcontrollers, FPGAs, RTOS)

Stand Out Criteria:

  • PhD with focus in optimal controls highly preferred.

  • Knowledge of circuit simulation and mathematical tools such as Matlab, Simulink, PLECS etc. PLECS, MATLAB, Saber.

  • 7+ years of Model Based Systems Development experience in the power electronics domain

  • 7 + years of hands-on power electronics algorithm development and testing experience

  • Experience in control of electric machines, power converters and active front end applications

  • Experience in control system verification using Rapid-prototyping-platforms and Hardware-in-Loop systems

  • Experience in control system development using techniques such as state observers, Model Predictive Control, LQR etc.

  • Experience with power electronics Hardware/Software/Control algorithms integration

Skills:

  • Must have the ability to create strong relationships and communicate highly technical and nuanced ideas to both specialists and non-specialists.

  • Must have outstanding communications abilities, professional presence, strategic thinker, ability to work independently and make decisions on program concepts

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
