ABOUT GLOBAL PROCUREMENT:

ABOUT ROLE: 

This newly designed and introduced role of Director, Procurement - Global Sustainability & Supplier Diversity will be responsible for being the focal point of contact for World Wide Material Group’s Global Procurement as well as the go to person for the internal Sustainability, ESG Team and external supplier partners alongside key industry working groups. Our global Materials Group comprises Label and Packaging Materials, Graphics Solutions, Reflective Solutions, and Performance Tapes businesses and this role will seamlessly be tying your efforts across those respective businesses. 

This role will report into the Senior Director, Procurement - Global Strategic Programs who is part of Global Procurement Leadership Team and will act as an advisor directly to the Group Vice President, Global Procurement. The successful candidate will take along partner functions and suppliers and help enable Avery Dennison’s ESG and Sustainability Strategy. 

Critical Objectives:

  • Sustainability: Enabling Avery Dennison’s Vision of: “Leading Forward in sustainability with Circular and Low Carbon portfolio, become Net Zero by 2050 and add Stakeholder Value.” by closely partnering with our supply base and driving projects in and around following strategies with the category communities in Films, Paper and Chemicals along with Indirect Services: 

  • Win With a Circular and Low Carbon Products Portfolio: Partner with supplier base in findinging solutions that will enable recycling solutions across all packaging substrates, drive supplier innovation on driving recycled and renewable content into our products. Working with suppliers in eliminating the concerns around chemicals (Green Chemistry). 

  • Drive Towards Net Zero Emission: Driving with the supplier base Scope III emissions reductions and setting and tracking holistic measurement. Enabling and driving supplier engagement for decarbonization, encouraging and following upon supplier’s strategic and long term approach to nature and water. 

  • Engage Externally and Advocate: Lead by example by promoting and encouraging thought leadership around Sustainability. External engagement with industry associations to drive supplier centered initiatives and influencing policy makers in favor of the Pressure Sensitive Label Industry in this capacity. 

  • Leverage Sustainability leadership to create value beyond converters: Boosting compelling value creation storytelling and engaging and educating value chain stakeholders to unlock growth. Train, coach and inspire Procurement as well as other functional communities to drive short, medium and long term projects that will enable value creation for all parties involved. 

  • Enable People and Communities to thrive: Partnering with Avery Dennison’s Sustainability Council as well as external suppliers and stakeholders in defining norms around due diligence as well as compliance and traceability around global supply chains of our suppliers. 

This leader will work closely with Global Category Teams and leaders to embed sustainability in the Preferred Partner Program that is being designed and executed. Such expectations will be tracked and reviewed thoroughly during monthly and quarterly business reviews to ensure proper visibility and acceleration. In addition this role will partner and champion collaboration with cross functional teams with Avery Dennison on various special initiatives linked with our sustainability program. 

  • Supplier Diversity: Avery Dennison is committed to help and support minority owned suppliers from the community and this leader will put forward a formal program on diverse suppliers which will serve as the foundation for us to groom and grow emerging diverse suppliers. Our Vision is: To source at least 15% of  our needs from diverse suppliers around the world. 

  • Defining, Monitoring and Reporting Supplier Diversity: This leader will define the baseline as is and will create a target plan for driving towards our vision of sourcing at least 15% of our needs from our diverse suppliers. This leader, by partnering with the Global Procurement Leadership Team, will create KPI’s that will enable and further enhance onboarding and working with diverse suppliers. Not just Tier 1 but define, monitor and report supplier diversity performance for Tier 2 as well as Tier 3 suppliers and enhance the vision beyond what’s currently laid out. 

  • Discovering: Identify, recognize and actively build a pool of diverse suppliers that will be included in our central as well as regional RFQs and RFP activities. Work diligently with the global procurement team in making sure that sincere efforts are made to increase our diverse spend that fits our company wide procurement criterion. 

  • Growing: This leader will promote structured program policies through our website as well as known DEI avenues where new suppliers can be attracted to work with us. An overt way of proactive outreach built along with the rest of the Procurement organization. 

  • Promoting: Promote our selected diverse partners to be inserted into our Preferred Partner Program to truly enhance and uplift suppliers from the diverse categories.

  • Requirements and Prior Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required.  Master’s Degree / MBA desired. 

  • 15+ years of strategic sourcing, category management or related procurement / supply chain experience 

  • Experience with Paper, Films, Chemicals, Indirect a major plus but not mandatory.

  • Passion for sustainability, both in impact and value, across stakeholders throughout the ecosystem 

  • International Experience of leading global and regional teams. 

  • Proven experience in Sustainability, Innovation, Waste Management domain.

  • Working knoweldge in Sustainability Function and knowledge of GHG (Scope 1/2/3) is required. 

  • Experience in Chemicals, Manufacturing, Industrial, Consumer Goods, Pressure Sensitive Label Industry

  • Ambition to stay abreast with the latest advancements in this domain through continued education.

  • The role will require regular global travel.
