Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Responsibilities
The primary role of the Senior Field Engineer is to support the construction department during activities for issue for construction (IFC) design packages of infrastructure projects. This may include construction projects, emerging project issues, providing support for project discovery, project scope development, support for identifying functional requirements for projects and systems.
Key Responsibilities
Participate in walk-downs, generate sketches, help develop conceptual designs, evaluate existing systems, and generate and/or review functional requirement documents.
Ensure processes and deliverables comply with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures.
Ensure designs are properly reviewed, purchased, executed, installed, tested, and documented in accordance with the latest issued construction documents.
Review engineering documents for constructibility during various design reviews of 30%, 60% 90%, and IFC.
Verify and report on construction installation quantities (Material Take-off Lists or Bill of Materials).
Interface with Project Engineering to facilitate responses to Requests for Information (RFIs), Field Change Requests (FCRs), and needed design changes.
Red-line drawings for incorporation into as-built drawings.
Prepare, review and approve material requisitions.
Assist in interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision.
May serve as internal subject matter expert with given engineering discipline.
May serve as Project Field Engineer (PFE) to oversee large projects.
Contribute to development of solutions to resolve construction issues.
Ability to interpret codes and standards related to engineering discipline.
Assist in the preparation of work plans and work packages.
Perform other duties assigned by Management.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) required for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees
Or, Calculus-based STEM bachelor’s degree in engineering
Or, for Architects, Certification from the National Council or Architectural Registration Board (NCARB)
Or Professional Engineer license
At least 5 years’ relevant experience.Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge. Graduate research experience may be recognized.
Execute work in a disciplined manner to demonstrate compliance with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures.
Experience working as a member of a team of professional and technical personnel.
In-depth experience analyzing complex technical problems and developing solutions in a systematic manner.
Experience in as-built, analysis, and discovery of older facilities that require modifications.
Professional Engineer license is desired but not required.
The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada).
Schedule will be 4/10s, Monday-Thursday (7:00am - 5:30pm). Must be able to work occasional overtime, if needed due to project schedules.
Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Annual salary range for this position is:$97,011.20 - $145,516.80.
Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
