CiTi BOCES Teacher of the Deaf in Mexico, New York

CiTi BOCES is seeking a compassionate and skilled Teacher of the Deaf to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing and will be responsible for providing specialized instruction and support across multiple school sites as they work in an itinerant capacity. This role involves collaborating with general education teachers, parents, and other professionals to create an inclusive and effective learning environment for students.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction and support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student’s needs.

  • Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt curriculum and instructional materials.

  • Utilize a variety of communication methods, including American Sign Language (ASL), to support student learning.

  • Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instruction as needed.

  • Provide training and support to school staff and parents on strategies for working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance and progress.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in deaf education.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

  • Valid teaching certification in Deaf Education.

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).

  • Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to travel between multiple district/school sites.
