The Compliance department has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Director, Medical Compliance to work on-site on the UHealth campus. The Director, Medical Compliance develops, implements, and monitors UHealth’s compliance plan and audit and monitoring program. Additionally, analyzes processes and makes recommendations for improvement. Contributes to the compliance risk assessment strategy and researches the implications of state and federal guidelines. The Director, Medical Compliance establishes procedures to ensure that external audits are conducted in a timely, consistent, and effective manner. An employee in this position develops, implements, and monitors UHealth’s compliance plan.

CORE FUNCTIONS

  • Develops, initiates, maintains, and revises policies and procedures to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct.

  • Collaborates with other departments to direct compliance issues to appropriate existing channels for investigation and resolution.

  • Acts as an independent reviewer and evaluation body to ensure proper evaluation, investigation, and resolution of medical compliance related issues or concerns.

  • Responds to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards of conduct, and recommends the initiation of investigative procedures.

  • Consults with corporate attorneys to resolve difficult legal compliance issues.

  • Reviews the accuracy and quality of reports prepared by the medical compliance team members as a result of compliance audit requests from external government audits and research audits.

  • Assists the senior leadership with the development and implementation of annual plans, utilizing compliance risk assessments based on internal/external audit findings and information published by state, federal, and other regulatory agency guidelines.

  • Monitors and coordinates compliance activities of other departments to remain abreast of the status of all compliance activities and identify trends.

  • Analyzes trend reports to identify patterns and variations in established practices.

  • Monitors and maintains documentation of all compliance activities and communications, which are conducted to support compliance efforts.

  • Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk, recommends corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues, and provides general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future.

  • Ensures proper reporting of violations or potential violations to duly authorized enforcement agencies.

  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.

  • Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.

  • Proficiency in computer software (i.e., Microsoft Office).

  • Knowledge of business and management principles.

  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
