The Pharmacy Practice Residency is a twelve-month post-graduate program designed to provide the resident with extensive, broad-based training and experience in pharmacy practice. The resident actively participates in achieving the educational goals and objectives for each training experience. Participates in the design and completion of a residency project. Interprets and processes physicians' drug orders and provides information to medical, nursing and other healthcare personnel concerning the optimal, safe use of medication therapy. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. The Pharmacy Practice Resident develops advanced skills in the areas of patient care, drug information, and pharmacy administration. This position also builds upon previous education and experience in pharmacotherapy management by working closely with healthcare providers.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Participates in training and educational activities of the residency program.

  2. Displays initiative in providing optimal patient medication therapy outcomes through clinical pharmacy services, education, special projects, innovative services, and other appropriate activities.

  3. Interprets and processes provider orders, and monitors drug interactions, allergies, and incompatibilities.

  4. Dispenses and performs the final check of all medications provided for patient use.

  5. Reviews copy of provider’s original orders for accuracy and appropriateness of therapy.

  6. Maintains active involvement in local, state, and national pharmacy professional organizations.

  7. Formulates a system for staying current with pertinent pharmacy, medical, and scientific literature.

  8. Maintains knowledge and understanding of the Pharmacy’s information systems.

  9. Delivers effective education and training using appropriate techniques.

  10. Provides pharmacokinetic support on indicated medications.

  11. Participates in the organization's formulary process.

  12. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:

Four Year College Degree – in Pharmacy; Pharm.D preferred

Certification and Licensing:

Florida Board of Pharmacy Pharmacist License as per PGY1 Residency Manual Experience:
