The Senior IT Security Engineer is primarily responsible for safeguarding the organization’s computer networks and systems. The incumbent in this role plans and carries out security measures to monitor and protect sensitive data and systems from infiltration and cyber-attacks. He/She performs advanced level tasks and activities in support of the Security technology process. The Senior IT Security Engineer completes advanced risk assessments, identifies vulnerabilities within a network and creates firewalls or configures systems to enhance existing security features. This incumbent collaborates with IT teams to define/document subtasks and activities necessary to complete committed deliveries.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Identifies, designs and implements complex security solutions across multiple security domains and technologies.
Works closely with customers to identify and understand their business requirements and applies relevant security solutions to reduce their overall security risk.
Ensures work products and processes are consistent with PCI, HIPPA, NIST standards.
Implements advanced Cyber Security controls.
Collaborates with peer groups to apply advanced security solutions to reduce overall security risk.
Identifies current and emerging technology issues including security trends, vulnerabilities and threats.
Leads proactive research to analyze security weaknesses and recommends appropriate strategies.
Maintains software and hardware in relation to security.
Develops documentation for new or implemented solutions and verifies documentation remains current. Sources new security solutions to better protect the organization.
Maintains relative currency of operational systems.
Analyzes and diagnoses moderate-complex information security system problems.
Applies analytical skills and technical knowledge to solve problems that are of moderate to difficult complexity.
Utilizes advanced knowledge of technology, products and services to build enterprise security solutions.
Remains current on evolving threats and continues learning and providing advice about security solutions across one or two domains and technologies.
Provides analysis and evidence to management during internal and external security audits.
Conducts internal/external audits, develops corrective actions plans and implements resolutions.
Performs other duties as assigned and modified at manager’s discretion.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Advanced knowledge of Dev/Sec/Ops processes
Advanced knowledge of Cloud infrastructure, security architectures, and standards
Advanced understanding of PII, PCI, HIPPA, NIST standards
Advanced understanding of technical issues and the ability to manage them within a fast-paced business environment
Advanced knowledge and experience with web-based applications or web-services
Advanced knowledge of network and web related protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP, IPSEC, HTTP, HTTPS, routing protocols)
Advanced knowledge of risk assessment tools, technologies and methods
Advanced knowledge of disaster recovery, computer forensic tools, technologies and methods
Ability to demonstrate understanding of current threats to Cloud infrastructure and/or IT infrastructures at technical level
Ability to automate/script daily tasks through Python, Bash or equivalent
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Ability to communicate network security issues to peers and management
A strong, well organized multi-tasker with a keen eye for detail who can think one step ahead of attackers
Advanced skill in Microsoft Office Suite products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, plus a variety of other word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail and presentation software
Ability and willingness to travel locally, regionally and nationwide up to 15% of the time
Spoken and written fluency in English
This job requires use and exercise of independent judgment
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE CRITERIA:
BA/BS degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related IT field OR additional experience above the minimum will be considered in lieu of the required education on a year-for-year basis required
A minimum of 5 years’ IT industry experience in a corporate environment required
A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Security Engineer required
Advanced experience with broad array of security technologies, such as NGFW, WAF, SIEM, endpoint security
Experience in designing and implementing standards, specifications and procedures for IT security preferred
Experience with anti-virus software, intrusion detection, firewalls and content filtering
At least 1 security-related certification, such as CISSP, SECURITY+ required
