The Staff Human Factors Engineer for Beckman Coulter Diagnostics is responsible for leading Human Factors Engineering deliverables in support of the design, development, and sustainment of our next generation hematology and urinalysis diagnostic systems. The position will collaborate with R&D, Product Management, Quality Assurance, and Clinical Affairs to complete workflow and risk analysis, and design & execute formative & summative studies to ensure excellence in product usability and device safety. The Staff Human Factors Engineer will utilize UX best practices to create user centric solutions and workflow designs.

This position is part of the Hematology/Urinalysis R&D located in Miami, Fl and will be onsite at Beckman Coulter, our vision is to relentlessly reimagine healthcare, one diagnosis at a time.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Apply Human Factors techniques and methodologies towards the design and development of medical devices in compliance with FDA and other regulatory standards and guidelines. (e.g. FDA human Factors guidance, IEC 62366, AAMI HE75).

  • Plan and execute usability studies (Formative and Summative), analyze data, document results, and present recommendations to product teams.

  • Perform workflow analysis and risk analysis activities such as task and user error analysis. Ensure traceability to design mitigations and requirements for risk areas.

  • Collaborate with teams to define and design detailed user interface and product design via wireframes, storyboards, mockups and specifications. Utilize UX best practices to create user centric solutions and workflow designs.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • BS in Engineering, Human Factors, Usability Engineering, Cognitive/Experimental Psychology, Industrial Design, Engineering Psychology or equivalent technical degree. Master’s degree in Human Factors preferred.

  • 8+ years relevant experience in user experience design roles

  • Working knowledge of IEC 62366. Demonstrated experience in Systems engineering of complex electro-mechanical systems preferred.

  • Experience and expertise in the software design process, interaction design, user research, and usability

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio), and Wireframes design and statistical analysis tools.

Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements

  • Ability to travel – 10% travel of the time for domestic and international

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Identify and lead triage activities to address usability issues.

  • Experience with Azure Dev/Ops a plus.

  • Ability to apply user-centered design and usability engineering principles to product research, development, and design.
