The Lead, Analytics partners with business units and technical teams to understand, develop, improve, and maintain BI systems. The Lead, Analytics may operate in a highly collaborative environment of BI developers, data scientists, data engineers, domain experts and/or business leaders to deliver analytics products that have the potential to fundamentally alter how healthcare is thought about and delivered in a large scale. The incumbent in this role uses their expertise, skills and technical knowledge to transform data into metrics, automated reports, and dashboards.

With deep knowledge and expertise, the incumbent in this role formulates, recommends, and leads data-driven projects which are geared at furthering the company’s interests. The incumbent provides actionable insights to improve decision-making at all levels of the business. The incumbent in this role is responsible for managing assigned projects, provides support with on-the-job training and gives skillful guidance with escalations and complex situations

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contributes to the strategic and tactical planning of Business Intelligence standard, practices and methodologies by sharing insights.

  • Manages large and complex analytical projects from data exploration, model building, performance evaluation and testing.

  • Identifies, analyzes, designs, implements and tests BI solutions to meet business needs.

  • Builds and develops reports, dashboards, and tools using SQL, SSRS, and QlikView, NPrinting, as well as other tools.

  • Designs and executes processes and procedures to continuously improve data quality and integrity. Proactively identifying issues at every step and coordinates the implementation of required fixes.

  • Partners with business stakeholders to understand their requirements and assist in the development of dashboards, visualizations and solutions tailored to their needs.

  • Builds extensive internal and/or external networks to facilitate achievement of objectives.

  • Documents and maintains existing processes, architectures and code.

  • Assists, mentors, and instructs lower-level developers and analysts as needed.

  • Advises and instructs on complex matters through the use and exercise of prior experiences. Identifies and implements the most appropriate options and solutions.

  • May provide recommendations on adaptions or improvements to existing processes.

  • May lead in developing complex algorithms and statistical predictive models and determining analytical approaches and modeling techniques to evaluate scenarios and potential future outcomes.

  • May conduct and facilitate analyses of structured and unstructured data to solve multiple and complex business problems utilizing advanced statistical techniques and mathematical analyses and specialized expertise in the organization and/or industry.

  • May apply analytical rigor and statistical/ML methods to analyze large amounts of data, using advanced statistical techniques.

  • Serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on different projects for specific products, processes or applications.

  • Leads other team members across a range of projects. Assumes a prominent role in the development of junior staff. Behaves as mentor to junior team members to provide technical advice.

  • Leads, coaches and influences team members through on-the-job training, troubleshooting and handling escalations.

  • Performs other duties as assigned and modified at manager’s discretion.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Highly developed business acumen and acuity

  • Expert knowledge and understanding of standard BI practices, functions, techniques, processes and methods

  • Deep technical know-how and product knowledge related to BI and/or data practices

  • Deep familiarity with a variety of data sources including transactional databases, data warehouses, internal tools, and external integrations.

  • Skilled at developing Analytics solutions

  • Strong data management skills

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills

  • Solid project management skills

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to pay close attention to details

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to partner, influence, consult and collaborate with senior levels in the organization

  • Motivated self-directed, but with the ability to take direction from others

  • Proven ability to create and deliver communications (written and verbal) and presentations to audiences at all levels within the organization

  • Proven ability to develop predictive data models using statistical and mathematical methods

  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities; exceptional time management and organizational skill

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, plus a variety of other word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail and presentation software

  • Ability and willingness to travel locally, regionally and nationwide up to 10% of the time

  • Spoken and written fluency in English

  • This job requires the use and exercise of independent judgment

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE CRITERIA:

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Medical Informatics, Statistics, Engineering, Economics or related field required OR additional experience above the minimum may be considered in lieu of the required education on a year-for-year basis

  • Master’s degree with a combination of technical and business background a plus

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience analyzing and manipulating data from a variety of production systems and data platforms required

  • RDBMS experience (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or Oracle, etc.) required

  • Some experience programming with a high-level scripting language (Perl, Python, C#, etc.) desired

  • Experience working with a variety of reporting and analytic tools (QlikView, NPrinting, and SSRS) strongly preferred

  • Experience using tools in at least one cloud computing platform such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform preferred

  • Exposure to or experience with ETL processes. SSIS experience a huge plus

  • Experience in query tuning and database engine optimization desired

  • Experience in database programming, stored procedures, data imports and exports desired
