POSITION SUMMARY: The Technical Writer is responsible for taking complex, technical information and translating it into an easily understandable format, per customer guidelines. The Senior Technical Writer will work closely with experienced writers and other internal employees to interpret contractual specifications, engineering drawings, reports, and other data to help produce technical documentation to comply with customer requirements. The Senior Technical Writer will assist with training and answering questions from employees regarding contractual specifications. The Senior Technical Writer may communicate with customer and/or customer's representatives throughout the project, as needed. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Writes technical documents/manuals according to specifications for customer Troubleshoots mechanical, electrical, and/or pneumatic systems on heavy-duty equipment Researches existing data to maximize use of previously developed text and/or illustrations Drafts text materials to ensure text and illustrations are completed and coordinated per final product requirements Documents and archives technical data over long periods in an efficient, established method to aid in future related projects Tracks and records time spent on projects Communicates status of work to management and any needs for additional information Completes assigned tasks according to established deadlines, customer specifications, and company policies and procedures Follows all established safety procedures and reports violations to appropriate personnel; may make recommendations on safety procedures Assists management with training of department employees; relays training needs and status to immediate supervisor Reviews project requirements to comply with customer specifications and agreements Assists in communicating project status and deadlines with customer and other internal and external personnel Assists in allocating resources to projects and accurately estimating number of hours needed to complete current and future projects Coordinates with Project Lead to assist in managing phases of the project Performs any other job-related instructions, as requested with reasonable accommodation WORKING ENVIRONMENT: General office environment; required to use office equipment (company computer, telephone/smartphone, photocopier); required to sit/stand for long periods of time May be required to work in a shop or manufacturing facility; exposure to hazardous chemicals and/or bloodborne pathogens is possible; noise level may be high in shop or manufacturing facility May be required to work on heavy equipment and/or heavy-duty vehicles to perform duties and responsibilities; required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, and lie down; may be required to lift up to 50 pounds May be required (on short notice) to work overtime/additional hours to meet deadlines; may occasionally require working weekends and/or holidays, as needed May be required to travel by motor vehicle and/or airplane to complete job requirements; estimated to be less than 25 percent; limited projects may require travel up to 50 percent MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required Associate degree in a technical or mechanical field, or equivalent work experience is required Associate degree in Automotive Repair or related field is preferred Bachelor of Science (BS) or Arts (BA) degree in business, engineering, technical field, or related degree is preferred Experience: Two to Four (2-4) years of experience writing complete, complex technical documents, including organizing the do
