Responsibilities The CTS Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is a registered professional nurse who demonstrates clinical expertise through advanced education, knowledge, and skills in an area of practice and clinical nursing specialization. The CNS role is able to guide and promote the growth and development of nursing practice through application of advanced nursing knowledge and skills with patients and families, nurses, and other health care providers. The CTS CNS is responsible for consultation, clinical teaching, staff development, and nursing practice in the CTS ICU and Step-Down Unit and assumes twenty-four-hour responsibility for planning and coordinating the clinical and nursing personnel aspects for the assigned patient care area to assure quality patient care. The CTS CNS role is an integral part of the Nursing Management and Cardiac Surgery Program team and as a team member assists with establishing the goals/philosophy/standards of the department. The CTS CNS collaborates with physicians and Department Heads to assure that patient care needs as related to other departments/disciplines are met. Garnet Health System provides a compensation range to comply with the New York State law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits. When determining a team member’s compensation and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity). Qualifications Minimum Education: BSN in Nursing required. Master’s Degree in Nursing, Nurse Practitioner or Nursing Administration preferred or commitment to attain degree. Minimum Experience: Five years of related nursing experience in a CTSICU required. Previous teaching experience preferred. Required Certification/Registration: Current and ongoing NYS RN Nursing licensure required. Current New York State License as a Clinical Nurse Specialist preferred. •CCRN (Adult) or CSC (Adult) required. ACCNS-AG eligible and required to be obtained within two years of hire or transfer to the role. •Current and ongoing ACLS required. Required Skills: Requires demonstrated strong interpersonal, teaching, oral and written communication skills to interact with all levels of hospital personnel, the medical staff, patients and other customers. Ability to multi-task. Requires demonstrated practical knowledge of common office software applications including Power Point, Excel, Word, etc. Requires demonstrated experience using EPIC in a clinical setting. Physical Requirements: Travel to multiple facilities is required. Standing and walking most of the day, lifting, moving patients and equipment. Working Conditions: Environmental Demands and Exposure to Hazards: Works in a clean, well-lighted, heated or ventilated facility. No routine exposure to hazards. Physical Demands: Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Ability to lift 10 lbs. Mental Demands: Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks. Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi-task. Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations. May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends to participate in operational and community events as necessary.
