IFF Nutrition & Biosciences is recruiting for an Analytical Technologist to join its dynamic team located at its manufacturing site in Midland, MI.

The Analytical Technologist is responsible for providing manufacturing analytical support to the primary and satellite labs for the Nutrition and Biosciences business. They will provide technical expertise and leadership in the lab and will work closely with the Quality Specialist, other Analytical Technologists, the Analytical Specialist, and others to implement analytical equipment, methodology and work processes, and ensure effective lab operations.

  • Proficiency with math and computer skills required to perform the Analytical Technologist role (highly desired)

  • Previous analytical laboratory experience and/or technical training in analytical chemistry (highly desired)

  • Gas Chromatography and Liquid Chromatography experience (highly desired)

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, SampleManager, OpenLab (preferred)

  • Experience with cGMP requirements (highly desired)

Job Requirements

  • Complete all lab and facility training programs and maintain qualification on all applicable tests and quality system requirements in accordance with the applicable training and qualification procedures. Complete additional technical training as needed in accordance with an employee development plan

  • Perform routine and non-routine analyses, instrument calibration, and instrument maintenance in support of plant operations and product release. This includes “special analyses” for customer, competitor, troubleshooting, and research samples

  • Monitor analytical systems, identify problems, conduct first-line and advanced troubleshooting, and escalate as appropriate

  • Participate in facility management, including, but not limited to: managing materials & supplies, housekeeping, and managing waste in accordance with RCRA guidelines

  • Follow relevant quality systems and act as a focal point supporting the lab audit program. Work with lab personnel to identify issues and improve quality using tracking tools

  • Assure compliance to all GMP and ISO requirements

  • Use relevant tools (SampleManager, OpenLab, FocusEMI, NWA etc.), evaluate validity of data, interpret results and take appropriate action

  • Document, communicate, and archive analytical results

  • Provide professional communication to clients, co-workers, and leadership

  • Adapt laboratory I/T and data handling systems to the needs of the unit and perform first-line troubleshooting

  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and coaching to assure lab personnel adhere to all safety standards and EH&S requirements (BBP, CHAT cards, E&AT, etc.) and follow all operating discipline pertaining to their role

  • Coordinate efficient lab operations and effectiveness by prioritization of shift activities such as sample workload, resources, instruments, and lab supplies

  • Develop hands on training as needed or facilitates training where deficiencies are identified. Lead and conduct periodic progress reviews and communicate results.

  • Work closely with lab leadership to help resolve lab conflicts and provide feedback on work performance issues

  • Optimize activities through continuous improvement process. Participate on analytical or plant improvement teams. Contribute to value creation by continuous improvement of lab procedures, the analytical work processes and related tools and performance metrics

  • Network with other technical personnel to share technology and to leverage problem solving and prevention expertise

  • Participate in the raw material and finished product retainer management system

  • Participate in plant initiatives (e.g. involvement in teams, operating discipline improvements, work process implementation, work process tools)

EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • An associate’s degree in chemistry or other related science discipline (required)

  • A bachelor’s degree in chemistry or other related science discipline (highly preferred)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able to lift 50 lbs. once/wk

  • Able to work on feet for extended period

  • Good manual dexterity and fine motor skills

  • Able to work a reasonable amount of overtime depending on business needs

  • Provide coverage on weekends, evenings, night, and holidays on a call-in basis
