Position Description

Kinder Morgan is one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America. We have an interest in or operate approximately 82,000 miles of pipelines and 140 terminals. Our pipelines transport natural gas, gasoline, crude oil, carbon dioxide (CO2) and more. This position is responsible for:

Providing rotating equipment vibration analysis support to the CO2 business unit’s operational assets (six Oil & Gas assets, two Midstream assets & multiple RNG assets). This position requires analyzing the health of different types of rotating machinery to proactively identify/predict any machinery and system issues and recommend corrective actions. To be successful in this role, the individual should have solid experience in vibration analysis using Emerson’s CSI vibration analyzers, and must have obtained at least a CAT 2 vibration certification.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate Safe Behavior

  • Ensure proactive, ongoing, high quality customer service is provided to the supported assets.

  • Utilize Emerson’s CSI analyzers to create/set-up data collection routes and analyzer settings such as Fmax, lines of resolution etc for plant equipment.

  • Utilize Emerson’s CSI analyzer to collect and analyze vibration data for rotating machinery such as: split case pumps, H-pumps, vertical pumps, screw and centrifugal compressors, motors, gearboxes, aircoolers etc.

  • Utilize trending, time wave form and FFT spectral data to identify equipment issues and provide corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.

  • Reduce unplanned machinery downtime by making predictions of imminent failures from collected data, as well as diagnosing potential root causes of failure.

  • Utilize process data such as: pressures, temperatures, flows, loads and efficiency etc to determine machinery health.

  • Provide field diagnostics and troubleshooting support to operations and maintenance.

  • Participates in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and incident investigations when necessary.

  • Utilizes CMMs (Maximo) to generate reports.

  • Other related tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Position Requirements

Education: At least a high school diploma is required.

Experience / specific knowledge:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience of centrifugal equipment vibration data collection in process industries: oil and gas, petrochemical industry, pharmaceuticals, pulp and paper etc. A similar experience in other industries will be considered.

  • Experience using CSI (Emerson) analyzers is required. Preferably CSI 2140 analyzers.

  • Knowledge of any CMMs software (Maximo, SAP, etc) is desired.

  • Knowledge of oil analysis is a plus but not required.

  • Knowledge of infra-red thermography is a plus but not required.

Certifications, licenses, registrations:

  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

  • CAT 2 vibration certification is required.

Physical demands:

  • Frequent travel to field/plant sites.

  • Walking and standing on platforms and in-between running equipment.

  • Ability to hear communications from others and give input/instructions orally

  • Ability to see in order to observe employees, operations, processes, equipment and facilities.

Working conditions:

  • Field, plant and office environment.

  • Occasional work in adverse weather conditions

Overtime:

  • This is a non-exempt position and it is eligible for overtime payment.
