Seeking an experienced staff level Firmware Test Engineer to play a leading role in developing and executing embedded software test methodologies to ensure that the instrument control firmware developed for BD's flow cytometry product line meets requirements and is of the highest quality. About the role:

As a leading member of the Firmware Test Engineering Team, you will be responsible for providing strong technical leadership for the verification of embedded software for medical devices and instrumentation. Detecting defects early in the development process is critical, and you will be charged with ensuring that the firmware is robust and that it meets all requirements prior to release. Providing leadership to constantly improve the process through automation to drive rapid testing will be a significant part of the job. The successful candidates will be detail-oriented, process-focused, results-driven, and able to work well cross-functionally with a broad range of teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for providing technical leadership of the Firmware Test Engineering team to implement methodologies to ensure that Firmware defects are caught as early as possible in the development process.

  • Work closely and cross-functionally with the firmware and hardware development and quality teams and with the program lead and functional management to develop a comprehensive and detailed test plan to verify that the firmware meets the requirements with high test coverage.

  • Develop tests at the appropriate level of the system. Determine the correct mix of unit tests, integration tests, and FCAT tests at the board, system, and interface levels.

  • As appropriate, develop and document test benches consisting of PC workstation, system hardware, peripheral emulators, and electronic test equipment to enable thorough testing of the firmware running on the system hardware.

  • Collaborate with the Systems, Software, Firmware, and Hardware development teams during the Firmware requirements creation process to ensure that the firmware requirements set is unambiguous, complete, realizable, and verifiable.

  • Develop and extend methods to automate the execution of the firmware tests to shorten test time, reduce errors introduced by manual testing, and increase test reliability.

  • Ensure that the test plan and test case documentation is available to key stakeholders (development team, management, etc.) in an appropriate revision-controlled repository during development and in the appropriate long-term archival database upon release.

  • Provide clear communication on the status of test execution and firmware defect detection.

  • Generate documentation to support regulatory filings and internal reports and specifications.

  • Follow design, quality, and safety guidelines based on GMP, FDA, and ISO guidelines and related BD Quality and Safety Standards and Practices

  • Understand business goals and link them to firmware testing efforts to support long-term product vision and strategies.

About You:

You are a talented firmware test engineer with deep experience testing embedded systems firmware to ensure a quality product. As a member of the quality checking process, you structure your actions in such a way as to ensure that no FW is released without meeting BD's quality standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, math, or science or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the firmware testing role with a strong track record of successful product releases.

  • Experience with C++, C, and Python.

  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and board layout drawings.

  • Hands on experience troubleshooting firmware/hardware interfaces using test equipment such as logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and debuggers.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in cross-functional and cross-geographical multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Familiarity and experience with Issue/Task/Bug/Test Case tracking systems such as Azure DevOps or Jira.

  • Manages time effectively and efficiently and able to context-switch as necessary to deal with new issues.

  • Able to bring clarity to ambiguous situations.

Desirable:

  • Experience with working in a regulated industry strongly preferred.

  • Experience with Azure DevOps.

  • 15+ years of experience in the firmware testing role

$126,600.00 - $208,900.00 USD Annual
