The Staff Systems Engineer is responsible for using their broad technical expertise, leadership skills, and development process knowledge to be a technical leader for product development. In this role, they are expected to translate voice of customer and stakeholder needs into system and product requirements, identify potential hazards and assesses requirements to ensure product compliance to safety and regulatory standards, drive product design architecture definition, model system and subsystem interaction processes, proactively identify technical risks and mitigation pathways, and aid cross-functional engineering teams in developing design and process specifications for new hardware and software products that effect many systems or for the improvement of multiple systems.

The expectation for a Staff Systems Engineer is that they represent R&D on project core teams, act as a leader of technical excellence, and strive for continuous improvement within the Systems Engineering function.

As such they are expected to help identify and prioritize tasks/resources, and mentor junior resources to ensure that critical project milestones are met and systems integration activities are identified and fulfilled.

What is expected of you for success in your role?

  • A strong technical background and experience within Systems Engineering (Requirements Management, System Architectural Development, Functional Modeling).

  • Hands-on experience in the domain of flow cytometry or other quantitative single cell analysis domain.

  • Proven understanding of product development lifecycle in a regulated environment.

  • Knowledge and experience in theoretical modeling of subsystem interaction and Model Based Systems Engineering

  • Responsible for coordination of system-level product development and its integration.

  • Translate voice of customer and stakeholder needs into system and product requirements.

  • Lead system/product-level feasibility and risks assessments.

  • Facilitate cross-functional knowledge and experiences to promote the understanding and resolution of in-market and product development issues.

  • Theoretical and/or practical knowledge in optics, lasers and electronics.

  • Ability to provide creativity while solving complex problems without known solutions.

  • Identify potential hazards and associated control measures.

  • Identify opportunities and drives continuous improvement efforts.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Extensive leadership skills and mentoring capabilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or Life Sciences subject area, required - PhD preferred

  • Minimum of 8 years' related work experience in Systems Engineering, Requirements Management, System Architectural Development, Functional Modeling, Model Based Systems, Engineering AND/OR Flow cytometry or other quantitative single cell analysis domainrequired will consider combination of work experience and advanced degrees.

  • Experience in the successful delivery of complex technology programs.

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

  • Ability to lead multi-discipline engineering teams.

  • Hands-on experience with DFSS is a plus.

  • Excellent interdepartmental and cross-functional communication skills; strong writing skills.

  • Experience using multi physics modeling tools

  • Practical knowledge using programming tools for modeling and data analysis

  • Experience in optics, lasers, electronics and optoelectronic devices.​

Salary Range Information

$126,600.00 - $208,900.00 USD Annual
