V2X is looking for a responsible and detail-oriented Plane Captain to join our team at NAS Whiting Field, supporting the Advanced Helicopter Training System (AHTS). As a Plane Captain, you will play a vital role in ensuring the operational readiness and safety of training helicopters by performing pre-flight and post-flight inspections, conducting routing maintenance, and overseeing ground handling procedures. This position is essential for supporting safe and effective training missions for Navy and Marine Corps pilots.
Basic Function Summary:
Provides line services in support of flight operations. These services include servicing, cleaning, fueling, defueling, blade wash, moving, securing, launching, and recovering of aircraft.
Will be required to operate self-propelled ground equipment during daily routine.
Services are primarily performed outside.
Must complete training program and be certified in writing as a plane captain and required to requalify semi-annually.
May be required to use hazardous materials in performance of assigned duties.
Limited use of hand tools which normally include screwdrivers, flashlights, and tools necessary to assist with engine rinses and aircraft washes.
Must display a good working knowledge of assigned aircraft and servicing requirements.
Must display a good working knowledge of inspection requirements and company instructions.
Must complete a government approved Plane Captain Certification Program for type aircraft.
Must be able to read, speak, write legibly, and understand the English language.
Essential Duties and Accountabilities:
Launch and recover aircraft in accordance with specific guidelines during day and night hours.
Perform aircraft inspections in accordance with published criteria.
Perform fueling operations using gravity fill and closed-circuit refueling methods.
Act as a member of an aircraft moving crew when

Be familiar with and operate portable firefighting equipment.
Maintain cleanliness of the work center and around your assigned work area.
Responsible for adhering to all applicable Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention rules and regulations.
Responsible for adhering to the Tool Control Program.
Must comply with established general and industrial safety rules and regulations as applicable to this contract, facilities, and job assignment.
Document work accomplished on government and company electronic and/or manual information systems.
Must possess personal tools required to perform the work in the classification.
Pursuant to the specific provisions of the CBA, at the discretion of management, may be requested to perform duties of Lead.
When assigned to outlying fields:
Maintain a communications link with line supervisory personnel and the on-site crash crew.
Provide gravity and hot fueling services at outlying fields when assigned.
Assist in ensuring the safety, security, inventory, and preservation of government owned and company owned equipment.
Perform other related duties within the job classification.
Qualification Standards:
Must have two (2) years of general aviation experience, preferably in contract, military or commercial, or the equivalent.
Must have basic mechanical aptitude.
Must be able to pass comprehensive testing, demonstrate practical knowledge after training and successfully complete examination by the Plane Captain Board to become a qualified Plane Captain within 120 days.
Must meet any other qualification standard imposed by the government contract not covered by this agreement.
Physical Demands/Environmental Conditions:
Climbing, standing, stopping, bending, pushing, kneeling, stretching, extensive walking, and working in tiring uncomfortable positions.
May require lifting of objects whose weight normally would not exceed 50 pounds.
The diversity of work conditions may range from an environment where there is little to no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes of temperature, wind, rain, etc.
May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail.
May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
May be exposed to electrical shock hazards.

Hazardous Materials Certification
A/C Plane Captain Certification
Aircraft Towing Certification
GSE Licensing
Airfield Operations License
Physical as required by NAVAIR 3710.1 series
Valid State Operators License

The successful candidate’s starting pay will be based on the current rate agreed in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for this site.
The following salary range is intended to display the current per hour rate for this job.
