Position:  SpEd EA, full time

What you will do…

The SpEd EA is a critical partner to our grade level teams, assisting our scholars with IEPs. The Special Education Educational Assistant will receive daily instructions from the lead SpEd teacher; generally a SpEd EA will:

  • Support our teachers in meeting the instructional, educational, behavioral, and social emotional (SEL) needs of students with disabilities in the classroom. 

  • Provide small group and/or individualized instruction to scholars with disabilities in accordance with their IEP and the lead teacher's lesson plans

  • Collect instructional and behavioral data for all objectives being taught for each student.

  • Implement Behavior Intervention Plans for students with disabilities.

  • Communicate proactively with teachers to inform them of student issues and conversations with parents.

  • Assist during standardized testing to support state and local testing processes and policies.

  • Assist with daily lesson plan materials (preparing them) and makes copies of materials for students (printed or electronic).

  • Assist with the distribution of food, supplies, materials and equipment, including technology.

  • Monitors movement throughout the building to other classrooms, learning areas, cafeteria, and elsewhere on school grounds. 

  • Assist administrators and other staff members in the orderly, expedient and safe transition of students from one location to another.

  • Assist students as necessary with physical needs including feeding, toileting, lifting, and mobility.

  • Assist students with healthcare procedures including hygiene and medications as needed for daily care.

  • Assist students with assistive technology devices, including communication devices, switches and orthopedic devices needed for sitting, walking, or standing.

  • Engage in professional learning opportunities in-person.

  • Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.

  • Administrative staff reserve the right to modify, add, or remove duties and assign other duties as necessary.

What you should have…

  • 60 college credits

  • Prior experience working with children, preferably in a school setting.

  • A passion for making a difference in the lives of children.

  • Absolute belief in every child’s ability to succeed and tenacity to ensure that success.

  • A Special Education Aide License or willingness to acquire one (We will help!).
