School/College/Division Description

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions ( OUA ) is housed in the Division of Enrollment Management, home to the Student Success Center, Financial Aid Office, Student Advising, Career Planning and more. OUA is tasked with attracting and enrolling undergraduate students to UWM’s three campuses. The department oversees recruitment, visits and events, operations (application processing), the CRM (Slate), marketing and communications. The team works to attract undergraduate students from a variety of groups: first time freshmen, first generation college students, transfer students, re-entry students, adult students.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Admissions Manager, the Freshmen Admissions Counselor will support the Universities of Wisconsin and UW-Milwaukee ( UWM ) enrollment goals through the promotion of UWM to prospective new freshmen students, families, and broader off-campus communities. This position is responsible for direct outreach efforts focusing on partnerships with high schools and community organizations as part of the overall recruitment and outreach strategies conducted by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. This position will be responsible for managing an assigned recruitment territory throughout Wisconsin, and additional regions as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Evidence of related work experience such as admissions, recruitment, counseling, or advising students

  • Must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver license (or other such valid operator’s permit recognized by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation) and be able to meet or exceed the minimum requirements for driving on state business as detailed here: https://uwm.edu/risk-management/drivers/

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or other advanced degree

  • Familiarity with UWM’s academic programs, admission requirements, and University policies and procedures as a staff member and/or student

  • Experience working with high school students and other student types in a higher education setting

  • Evidence of being welcoming to individuals of all cultural backgrounds and human diversity

  • Excellent written communication skills and evidence of excellent verbal communication skills, as evidenced by written application materials and interviews (where applicable)

  • Bilingual in Spanish

    Target Salary Range $43,000 - $47,000
