JOB REQUIREMENTS: Position Title: Dental Assistant - Faculty Practice; Dental Assistant, Entry Level - Faculty Practice Position Overview: Marquette University is looking for a dental assistant to join our Dental School Faculty Practice. This position provides assistance to dentists and patients and provides instruction to patients in accordance with the standards of the care in Dentistry. A seasoned dental assistant is required to have at least one-year of dental assistant experience including knowledge of dental terminology and anatomy and is able to immediately provide said assistance to the dental practice. An entry level dental assistant will be trained in all aspects of the job. Training will include learning the skills to assist dental residents/students, patients, faculty and staff in the Dental School. You may be eligible for promotion to the Dental Assistant position within one year of employment. Compensation will be based on level of experience. Duties and Responsibilities: Dental Assistant -- 1. Provide clinical dental assistance to dentists before, during and after treatment of patients including dental emergencies. 2. Assist faculty with compliance to record keeping protocols related to the treatment of patients. 3. Maintain and monitor accepted practices and care of dental equipment, instruments and supplies per MUSOD standards and regulatory group requirements. 4. Distribute, assist and monitor instrument and equipment management and case cart system. 5. Coordinate the repair and maintenance of dental equipment. 6. Provide clerical functions of a dental office including answering phones, scheduling appointments and handling patient records and other computer related duties. 7. Attend in-service programs, group and dental assistant meetings and other various committee meetings as required. 8. Perform any and all related duties as required or assigned by the supervisor. Dental Assistant, Entry Level -- 1. Participate in training in the area of dental assistance and instruction to residents and students during the examination and treatment of patients and assistance to faculty during surgical procedures and dental emergencies including monitoring patient comfort, taking vital signs and assuring that clinic procedures are followed. 2. Provide orientation of clinic to dental students and provide them with instruction during examination and treatment of patients. 3. Assist dental students and/or faculty with recordkeeping related to the examination and treatment of patients. 4. Maintain and monitor cleanliness, functionality, and inventory of dental materials, equipment and instruments per guidance from regulatory agencies, and school and clinic policies. 5. Attend in-service programs and various meetings as required. 6. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested. OR High school education with the ability to learn dental terminology and anatomy, OSHA requirements, 4-handed dentistry, instrumentation, impressions materials and cements, x-ray technology and procedures, sterilization procedures, patient management techniques and CPR. Requires dexterity, ability to tolerate long periods of bending, standing and walking. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent customer service and listening skills. Courteous demeanor, discretion and flexibility.
