Actalent Environmental Technician in MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin
An environmental technician collects and analyzes air, water, and soil samples to monitor environmental pollution levels, ensuring compliance with regulations by performing field investigations, laboratory tests, and data analysis, often working under the supervision of an environmental scientist to identify and address potential environmental hazards and report findings to clients or regulatory agencies; key tasks include sampling, data recording, equipment operation, and preparing detailed reports on environmental conditions and potential contamination issues.
Key responsibilities may include:
Sample collection:
Gathering air, water, and soil samples from various sites using specialized equipment.
Laboratory analysis:
Performing chemical, physical, and biological tests on collected samples to identify contaminants and measure their concentrations.
Field investigations:
Conducting site inspections to assess potential environmental concerns and identify pollution sources.
Data analysis:
Recording and interpreting test results, creating charts, tables, and reports to summarize findings.
Compliance monitoring:
Ensuring adherence to environmental regulations and reporting violations.
Equipment operation:
Utilizing monitoring devices like air quality sensors, water quality meters, and sampling equipment.
Report preparation:
Writing detailed reports documenting findings, including recommendations for remediation or corrective actions.
Emergency response:
Assisting in environmental emergency situations like spills or hazardous waste incidents.
Required skills:
Knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance procedures
Proficiency in laboratory techniques and equipment operation
Strong data collection and analysis skills
Technical writing and reporting abilities
GIS (Geographic Information Systems) knowledge for data visualization
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
Attention to detail and quality control practices
Education and qualifications:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, chemistry, or a related field
Relevant certifications depending on the area of specialization (e.g., asbestos, lead, hazardous waste)
Experience in field sampling and laboratory analysis
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $20.00
