Hennepin County Assistant Director - Environmental Protection in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Salary $98,440.22 - $156,246.56 Annually Job Number 24EED912PC56 Closing Date 10/8/2024 11:59 PM Central Description The Environment and Energy Department is seeking an experienced leader to serve as Assistant Director over the work of the Environmental Protection division and be a part of the department s leadership team. The division is comprised of approximately 40 permanent and seasonal staff engaged in the work of brownfields cleanup and environmental due diligence, natural resource preservation and enhancement, and commercial hazardous waste licensing and inspection. The mission of Hennepin County's Environment and Energy Department is to preserve and enhance Hennepin County's environment for the future generations through the responsible management of wastes and natural resources and the promotion of environmental stewardship. Location and hours: This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Hennepin County Environment and Energy Department, 701 Fourth Avenue South, Suite 700, Minneapolis, MN 55415, and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, with typical hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment. In this position, you will: Direct overall functions related to the programs of the Environmental Protection division. Establish and maintain effective relationships and coordinate program work with other county departments, governmental, private and public entities, county residents or other affected groups on division programs. Participate in short and long range planning and development, implementation, and evaluation of programs. Lead and foster a culture of innovation and teamwork in which creativity is encouraged, knowledge is shared, and collaboration is a responsibility of all employees; use data to inform and guide decisions, policies, and practices. Lead the development of the division budget and assist in the overall development of the department s annual operating and capital budget request. Present information on programs to various audiences including county board, other departments, cities, and agencies. Develop recommendations for proposed legislation and assist in preparing testimony and other materials for legislative and agency hearings related to programs. Oversee the division s contract and grant work to ensure consistency with applicable requirements. Provide direction and vision for strategic resource management including human resources and financial management/budget. Provide leadership to further department-based strategies that align with county goals, mission, and core values for diversity, equity & inclusion. Participate as a member of the department leadership team and serve as Director in the absence of the Director.
