Job ID358595 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyCampus Operations Full/Part TimeFull-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code8421BD Employee ClassCivil Service About the Job Building Maintenance Technician Job ID: 339669 Location: Twin Cities Job Family: Campus Operations Full/Part Time: Full-Time Regular/Temporary: Regular Job Code: 8421BD Employee Class: Civil Service Position Overview: This position will be responsible for, but not limited to, the maintenance of the department's fixed and movable equipment and the storage warehouse, and will assist the facilities operations manager with complex equipment maintenance on the department's cage washers, tunnel washers, cabinet washers and autoclaves. Position Responsibilities: Equipment Maintenance (80%): * Perform preventative maintenance, equipment modifications, and troubleshooting of department's movable equipment * Assemble, disassemble, replace, or repair, defective parts; reassemble as required; troubleshoot or adjust movable equipment * Order replacement parts for equipment * Order replacement equipment when needed * Manage the department's storage warehouse * Assist the area supervisors with their equipment needs, repairs and replacement * Responsible for moving equipment to and from the warehouse * Assist with repairs to cage and rack washers, tunnel washers, bottle washers, bottle fillers, bedding dispensers, automatic watering systems, autoclaves, etc. Inventory Control (5%): * Maintain inventory of equipment at the warehouse * Coordinate with supervisors for any needed equipment Strategic Planning (5%): * Based on the strategic plan for the department asses the future need for equipment * Assist with schedules and reviews of maintenance and operation of assigned areas of the department's physical plant systems and fixed equipment located in multiple buildings throughout the Twin Cities U of M campus Professional Development (5%): * Participate in department, college, and University events, meetings, projects, and initiatives Additional Duties (5%): * The RAR Director may change or assign other duties to this position Work Schedule and Hours: Monday - Friday, 6:30 am - 3:00 pm Some weekends and holidays may be required. Physical and Environmental Requirements: * Proof of current Tetanus vaccine must be provided before starting of employment * Rabies vaccines or titer will be complete, or employee may complete a declination form * Measles vaccine or titer will be completed * Toxoplasmosis titer will be drawn, or declination form completed * There will be exposure to animal allergens * Annual test for Tuberculosis will be completed * Due to high level of noise annual hearing test are performed * The employee may work in wet rooms * Employee may work in outside environments in all weather conditions The pay rate for this position will fall in the range of $41,828.80 - $74,193.60, depending on qualifications Qualifications Required Qualifications: * BA/BS degree or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years Preferred Qualifications: * Have basic mechanical skills * Have basic knowledge to program development for PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) * Have basic knowledge of installation, troubleshooting and de-bugging PLC hardware and software * Have basic knowledge of steam and water properties as they pertain to sterilization and disinfection * Knowledge of washing and sterilization protocols and processes to clean effectively a variety of laboratory animal facility equipment * Excellent communication and time management skills * Clean driving record About the Department Research Animal Resource (RAR) is overseen by the Office of the Vice President or Research. RAR's primary focus is on the service and administration of the animal care and use program at the University of Minnesota. The position of Facilities Maintenance Supervisor is part of staff of over 100 employees including Professional and Academic faculty, Civil Service staff, and Uni n Represented employees. RAR has a daily census of 24,000 rodent cages in 20 buildings split into 7 geographic teams between the Minneapolis and St. Paul Campus.
