Barr Engineering Environmental Scientist - Entry Level (Hybrid) in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Job Description: Summary: The person in this position will work with scientists, engineers, and other Barr staff members to evaluate ecological and regulatory constraints for projects and prepare applications and reports required for project implementation and impact mitigation. Work may include conducting wetland delineations, hydrology, and vegetation monitoring, functional assessments, and natural resources inventories; developing permit applications; preparing assessmentsthat evaluate project impacts; and preparing mitigation and restoration plans. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in ecology, biology, soil science, or a similar natural resources field Knowledge of the 1987 U.S. Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual and appropriate regional supplements to the 1987 manual Knowledge of GPS and GIS tools and basic computer skills Experience conducting wetland delineations Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a part of project teams Demonstrated written and oral presentation skills Strong interpersonal skills Strong attention to details and organization skills Flexible working style and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedule to meet project commitments Willingness to travel for occasional short-term, out of town assignments Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in ecology, biology, soil science, or a similar natural resources field 1 or more years of relevant, professional work experience Knowledge of state MEPA and federal NEPA regulations and permitting processes Ability to work cooperatively with local, state, and federal regulators Demonstrated experience using GPS and GIS tools for projects Experience with permitting under the Minnesota Wetland Conservation Act and federal Clean Water Act Knowledge of Minnesota wetland ecology Knowledge of state and federal endangered species programs Consulting experience Minnesota Wetland Professional Certification or eligible to obtain certification A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota, office. NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided.
