City Of Minneapolis-Human Resources Fleet Service Equipment Supervisor in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Position Description Supervise, assign and coordinate the work of skilled and semi-skilled employees engaged in repair and maintenance of construction and mobile equipment and assist in related fleet service activities. Work Location: This position currently works on-site only. Job Duties and Responsibilities * Supervise staff engaged in maintenance and repair of the City's equipment at three maintenance and repair locations. Oversee: * Preventive maintenance, repair, servicing, and reutilization of automotive equipment. * Maintenance of records of inventory, and maintenance and repair activities. * Hazardous waste stream compliance, including permits and ensuring proper disposal, records and reporting. * Maintenance of personnel records, including payroll processing. * Assist in generating specifications for equipment, supplies, and materials. * Coordinate with user departments to assist fleet services director and maintenance manager with budget preparation. * Oversee training activities for staff, (Mechanics and Equipment Service Workers) and may do some training for user department staff. * Oversee enforcement of work rules and departmental policy and procedure. * Manage staff and personnel issues including details, permits, promotions, and discipline. * Schedule and supervise special projects, modifications, redesigns, and fabrications for equipment. * Coordinate with and handle communications with other City Departments, other governmental organizations and Federal, State, and Local regulatory agencies, etc. * Consult with contractors, vendors, inspectors, regarding division activities, including billing, and DOT annual inspections. * Responsible for waste storage, hazardous waste processing, safety training, right to know training, and emergency response preparedness. * Monitor the three Fleet Services work sites to ensure safety procedures are followed. * Investigate complaints and accidents, and complete reports documenting incidents and actions. Working Conditions: Exposure to exhaust fumes, dirt, oil, solvents, etc. Required Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Associate's degree in Automotive Technology, Truck and Heavy Equipment Repair or equivalent Minimum Experience: Five years of experience performing journeymen level mechanic work which includes working with a computerized equipment management system. Equivalency An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered. Licenses/Certifications: ASE Certifications preferred. Selection Process The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience (100%). It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score (80%) on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process. Background Check The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. Applicants may be required to sign an informed consent form allowing the City to obtain their criminal history and/or verify their qualifications in connection with the position sought. Applicants who do not sign the informed consent form will not be further considered for the position. Drug and Alcohol Testing All job applicants must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test once a conditional offer of employment has been made. Applicants will be required to sign a notification and consent form prior to undergoi g drug and alcohol testing. Applicants who do not consent to undergo drug and alcohol testing will not be required to do so and the City will withdraw the conditional job offer, resulting in the job applicant no longer being considered for the position. Medical Exam After a conditional job offer, candidates will be required to pass a medical examination which includes a physical screening. Union Representation This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement between the City of Minneapolis and the Minneapolis City Supervisors Association (CSU). This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire one month after it has been established. Interview Selection The hiring authority reserves the right to determine the maximum number of candidates to interview from the established eligible list. If the hiring authority decides to interview other than by exam score order, they may select additional people to interview based on a candidate's education or experience related to the field, work history, or skills uniquely related to the operational needs of the position. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Class B with air brake endorsement Commercial Driver license preferred. * Supervisor skills and experience preferred. * Certified Public Fleet Professional, CAFM or an equivalent certification preferred. * Knowledge union contracts and other Public Works policies governing employees supervised. * Knowledge of other Public Works Department operations * Knowledge of construction and mobile equipment uses. * Knowledge in building/fabricating equipment. * Knowledge in adapting attachments for equipment. * Knowledge of shop/work site safety and management. * Knowledge of local, state and federal laws & regulations regarding health and safety, hazardous waste, and commercial motor vehicle regulations. * Good knowledge of appropriate safety regulations. * Knowledge of purchasing procedures and requirements * Ability to use modern office software and work order software including generating reports. * Ability to delegate work, follow up, and coach the work with subordinates * Ability to multi task and work under pressure. * Good interpersonal skills. * Good Customer service skills * Good oral and written communications skills.
