Dr. Lindsey Sloan has a translational laboratory in the Masonic Cancer Center Discovery Labs as a member of the University of Minnesota Brain Tumor Program. Her laboratory is focused on understanding the effects of radiation on cancer immunology in primary brain tumors. This job posting is for a lab manager position. Hourly Compensation Range: $33.00 - $43.00 Responsibilities: 60%: Design, perform, and analyze experiments * Ex vivo/in vitro/histopathological experiments relating to cancer immunology, including longitudinal translational studies involving primary human cells * Record detailed observations about experiments * Maintain and develop standard laboratory protocols * Coordination of longitudinal human biosample studies * Contribute to manuscript preparation and progress reports 30%: General Lab Management, Maintenance, and Inventory Management * Maintain laboratory records, inventories, and logbooks * Providing and enforcing standard operating procedures * Monitor and maintain machines * Ensure samples are received and stored properly * Ensure all waste is removed according to regulations * Ensure compliance with established laboratory safety and other procedures * Training of other scientists, technicians, students, and support personnel * Responsible for lab supply ordering, and lab organization and cleaning 10% Administration * Review literature searches on relevant topics to the laboratory * Prepare and present on topics related to the laboratory * Corresponding with PIs and other outside laboratories, corresponding and meeting with other University laboratory personnel on joint projects, corresponding with accountants and other university resources regarding projects and personnel * Assist with drafting contract/grant proposals including researching methods, literature searches, formatting, compiling multiple input into draft documents, drafting budgets, obtaining appropriate quotes, finalizing details, sending materials, and corresponding with accountants, SPA, and other entities involved in grant submission Additional Duties * Other duties as assigned Qualifications All required qualifications must be documented on application materials. Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree with 4 years relevant laboratory work experience or a Master's Degree in biological sciences with 2 years post-graduate work experience * Experience with flow cytometry, histopathology, and tissue culture * Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills * Willingness to work with animal models * Computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office, and ability to learn new software Preferred Qualifications: * Prior experience as a laboratory manager * Human subjects research experience * Prior peripheral blood work * Knowledgeable in the field of immunology and/or neuroscience * Experience in an academic setting * Experience with manuscript or grant preparation * Ability to work with a high level of independence Benefits Working at the University At the University of Minnesota, you'll find a flexible work environment and supportive colleagues who are interested in lifelong learning.
