These may include online, day and evening, undergraduate and graduate courses. Positions are typically for one semester (4 months) but may be for the full academic year (9 months). Position title and salary vary according to qualifications of candidate and available funding. Family Social Science continually accepts resumes for teaching positions that may open up during the academic year or summer sessions. Applications are reviewed as openings occur, and individual applicants are invited to interview when their skills or areas of expertise match an opening. These are temporary, non-tenured, Academic Professional and Administrative (P&A) positions as Teaching Specialist and Lecturer, paid on a per course basis. Typically these appointments are made semester by semester or in the summer, and employment is contingent on the course meeting its enrollment target. This posting and process is designed to establish a pool of instructors. Applications will not be individually acknowledged, but will be reviewed when such openings occur throughout the year Possible 2020-2021 courses are: FSoS 1201 - Human Development In Families FSoS 1461 - Presentations at Work: Families, Communities, Nonprofits and Schools FSoS 3102 - Family Systems and Diversity FSoS 3426 - Alcohol and Drugs: Families and Culture FSoS 4104 - Family Psychology FSoS 4155 - Parent Child Relationships Job Responsibilities: Course book selection Lectures Preparation of course materials (syllabus, exams, handouts) Course administration Grading and evaluation Holding office hours Meeting with students In some cases, Teaching Assistant supervision Qualifications Required Qualifications: A Masters degree in Family Social Science or relevant field is required to be hired as a Teaching Specialist A Doctoral degree in Family Social Science is required to be hired as a Lecturer Demonstrated interest in the area of family social science (publications, papers presented, courses taught) Must be able to teach at scheduled class time and arrange office hours Knowledge of course content area Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated experience teaching online, using alternative education and/or virtual learning formats Teaching experience with students and/or professionals in family social science, human development, psychology or a related field Professional experience in the content area to be taught Demonstrated experience teaching and mentoring diverse students, including students from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds About the Department Department Overview: The Department of Family Social Science is a multidisciplinary department in which faculty and students use the knowledge and methods of the social sciences to examine the family as a system as it interacts with the environment. Through the activities of teaching, discovery, and engagement, faculty and students address a wide range of social and economic issues affecting families locally, nationally, and globally. The ultimate goal of this work is to enhance the lives of individuals and families. Work is organized around four departmental themes: families and economic well-being, families and health, families and diversity, and relationships and development across the lifespan.
