Job ID357316 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyEducation-General Full/Part TimePart-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code9753I Employee ClassAcad Prof and Admin About the Job The Department of Chicano and Latino Studies in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota occasionally needs teaching specialists or lecturers to teach courses that cannot be staffed by regular faculty or graduate students. Openings of this kind sometime occur for teaching evening and summer session, as well as day courses and courses offered through Independent and Distance Learning. The courses are primarily introductory or survey courses, but may also include advanced courses and seminars. We seek full-time and part-time instructors. Full-time instructors will receive a salary with benefits. Appointments will be for the academic year. This does not constitute a posting for vacancies, but establishes a pool of applicants should openings occur. During the 2023-24 academic year. Applicants will be selected from this pool on an as-needed basis through academic year. Appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance. Teaching specialists and lecturers will be expected to teach undergraduate students in assigned course(s), hold office hours to assist and advise students, and participate in relevant departmental meetings and events. Qualifications Minimum qualifications: An advanced degree in Chicano and Latino Studies or related field, with at least two years of teaching experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Preferred qualifications: Ph.D. candidate or Ph.D. in Chicano and Latino Studies or related field, and five years of college-level teaching experience. Preference will be given to applicants capable of delivering high-quality instruction to a diverse student body. Applicants who have not completed the Ph.D. will be appointed at the Teaching Specialist level; those with a Ph.D.will be appointed at the Lecturer level. About the Department Grounded in the legacy of the 1960s Chicano civil rights movement, we trace the intellectual contributions, cultural shifts, histories and political developments of Mexican and Latin American people living in the United States.
