Duties Perform a variety of tasks related to collection maintenance and content development including shelving, inventory, gifts, and other acquisition procurement. Special projects as assigned, such as class and researcher preparation, collections assessments, and exhibitions. Other duties include handling reference questions and meeting with classes Qualifications Include either an MLIS or working toward a library degree or sufficient library experience with processing, organizing, cataloging and/or handling special collections materials, and/or some reference work or research experience. Requirements Undergraduate degree or equivalent Ability to follow instructions and procedures. Hands-on work with books, book carts, shifting and shelving (some moderately heavy lifting). Aptitude for reading catalog records. Ability to work in the cavern which is a temperature controlled environment for the stabilization of rare materials and media at 65 degrees (up to an hour at a time). Beginner-level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and equivalent Google Suite applications Demonstrated ability to work independently Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly with others (a variety of library users with differing questions and needs) Preferred: Demonstrated knowledge of art & art history Some knowledge about rare art books and art and performing arts media Demonstrated ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing Demonstrated problem-solving skills Attention to detail Demonstrated ability to adapt to a busy and changeable environment Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff Demonstrated ability to take initiative on projects and stay on task About the Department The Arts, Humanities & Area Studies Department provides strategic stewardship of University of Minnesota Libraries' disciplines in the arts, humanities, and area studies, ensuring depth of content in support of the curriculum, students, and researchers. The unit employs 7 librarians with subject expertise who are responsible for developing the content and promoting research and other educational opportunities through classes, workshops, exhibitions, and various community engagement activities. Under the supervision of the Arts & Performing Arts Librarian/Archivist/Curator, the TACE Project Assistant will work with the Gorman Rare Art Books, Media, and Artists' Archives Collection and the Performing Arts Archive in Andersen Library. Projects include but are not restricted to shelving, inventory, and identifying preservation needs for the rare materials in the collections, assisting with preparing materials for researchers and class visits, and handling reference questions. The appointment may also involve preparing materials for exhibitions or de-installing ex ibitions.
