POSITION DESCRIPTION

Manager of Safety and Training

OVERVIEW

The Manager of Safety and Training for the Baggage Handling System is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing training programs and safety protocols for baggage handling systems within an airport. This role will initiate, build and facilitate training programs ensuring all personnel are adequately trained and in compliance with airline and regulatory training programs. This position ensures safety standards are maintained, addressed and investigated to prevent accidents and improve efficiency.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Experience creating training materials and manuals to reflect the latest industry practices and regulatory requirements

  • Update training materials to reflect changes in technology, procedures, and regulations

  • Design and deliver comprehensive training programs for baggage handling staff

  • Develop and enforce safety protocols and procedures for baggage handling operations

  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards of airport facilities and equipment

  • Investigate accidents or incidents related to baggage handling and implement corrective actions

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant local, state and federal regulations and customer standards related to baggage handling and safety

  • Prepare and submit regular reports on training activities, safety audits, and incident investigations

  • Maintain accurate records of all training and safety activities

  • Foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the team

  • Conduct root cause analysis to mitigate and in some cases eliminate safety infractions

  • Identify and assess safety hazards and risks in airport operations

  • Collaborate with airport management and staff to address safety concerns

  • Prepare and present safety reports to senior management and regulatory authorities

  • Monitor safety performance metrics and report on trends and improvements

  • Stay informed about industry best practices and safety advancements

  • May be assigned other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 18 years of age or older

  • Eligible to work in the United States

  • High School Diploma/GED required

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • OSHA 10 or 30 Certified Required

  • Experience with Lockout Tagout Systems

  • Valid driver’s license required

  • Proficient in MS Office Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language, to include documents

  • Pass a background check and drug screen

  • Ability to use electronic devices including IPads/Tablets, Computers, and Mobile Devices

  • Possess outstanding communication and training facilitation skills and be comfortable speaking in groups

  • Must be able to work autonomously and in a group setting

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Eligibility to acquire needed credentials and clearances (FAA, TSA, Port Authority, U.S. Customs and U.S. Postal- as applicable)

  • Ability to work any day/shift, including holidays, within a 24/7 operation

  • Must possess the versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work with constantly changing priorities

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY/WORKING CONDITIONS MAY INCLUDE:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, occasionally up to 100 pounds

  • Prolonged standing and walking in an indoor/outdoor environment as applicable

  • Must be able to push, pull

  • Must be able to reach with arms and grasp with hands

  • Must be able to climb and work at elevated heights

  • Must be able to bend, stretch, squat, and kneel

  • Must be able to crawl and crouch, at times, in confined tight spaces

  • Work in a fast-paced environment

  • Move large pieces of equipment

  • Hand/eye coordination is required

  • Exposure to work in varying climates

  • Exposure to moderate and at times high noise levels

  • Be able to hear and respond to the spoken voice and to audible alarms

  • Tasks may involve repetitive motions of the arms, wrists, hands, and/or fingers

  • Specific vision abilities required for this job include: Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point); depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus)

Compensation:

The pay rate listed on this post is what the company reasonably expects to pay for this position. However, individual compensation may vary based on factors including qualifications, skills, competencies, education, and experience.

Salary: $85,000 - $90,000
