The responsibilities also include ensuring the quality and quantity of food preparation and service. Additionally, the role involves training and leading staff in various areas, such as food preparation, cashier practices compliant with PCI standards, cash register and credit card handling, cleaning standards, and delivering excellent customer service to all visitors and staff at the Arboretum. Job Responsibilities Front of House Staffing Oversight (50%) * Demonstrate positive leadership practices by being a role model for the team and setting clear goals with Arboretum Dining leadership, shift leads and staff. * Directs and oversees work performed by bargaining unit (Teamster) staff and student/temp/casual workers. * Provide coaching and feedback to team members, contribute to a positive and motivational work environment. * Maintains quality and quantity control; inspects food for taste and appearance; controls food apportionment. * Interviews, hires, trains, employees engaged in cashiering, dishwashing, food preparation, and serving customers * Maintain sales floor presence, providing a clean and hassle-free dining environment. Ensures employee compliance with sanitary and safety standards for food preparation, serving, dining, and clean-up areas * Train cashiers on register and credit-card system functionality and ensure PCI compliance in all transactions; pull transaction reports * Develops weekly schedule to cover operating hours, adjusts schedule daily to accommodate unexpected absences * Completes and submits First Report of Injury to UMN workers' compensation vendor; assists with medical emergencies and other onsite injuries * Maintain a professional appearance by adhering to the Company's dress policy. Contribute to a positive team environment. * Adhere to University of Minnesota and MN Landscape Arboretum policies and procedures. Planning/Operations (50%) * Work closely with the Executive Chef to maintain the integrity of pricing, signage, and accurate placement of such signage. * Possess knowledge of cafe menu. Display and serve food as needed with an eye for detail, cleanliness, and presentation. Communicate with the team in a concise and timely manner. * Supporting Teamsters-represented staff, temporary/casual workers, and University and High School Students with general daily tasks, including serving food. * Maintain inventory control to ensure freshness, product quality, and turnover for maximum sales. Restock cafe grab-n-go coolers daily as needed. * Ordering & Receiving. Order and review all incoming items to ensure vendor invoices are accurate, and check quality, conditions, and counts/weights of incoming merchandise. * Coordinate delivery of catered food items for internal meetings. * Studies and monitors slow-selling and popular dishes; investigates and makes recommendations on new methods and offerings to retain patron interest and satisfaction * Anticipate and adapt daily operations to meet necessary food volume with minimum waste and leftovers * Manage proper handling of balancing daily sales, cash drawers, safe balance, deposits and coin orders. Ability to handle all point-of-sale transactions including, but not limited to cash, check, credit/debit card, gift card, web order tenders, etc. * Arranges for maintenanc , cleaning and repair of kitchen, dish room, dining room and service area equipment * Provide customer service through friendly, courteous, fair and honest treatment of all customers. Maintain service levels/standards on the sales floor. Ability to handle customer feedback and complaints in a professional and timely manner. * Assists in development, results analysis and action-planning of customer satisfaction surveys * Communicate challenges and opportunities with back of the house support team members in a timely fashion for guidance. * Maintain a professional appearance by adhering to the Company's dress policy. Contribute to a positive team environment. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications (must be mentioned on application/resume): * BA/BS plus at least two years of experience or a combination of education and experience to equal at least 6 years. * Tactful communication skills required; including active listening and effective speaking. Display integrity and trust by growing and fostering a work environment that builds trust among all levels of our operation. * Possess a valid Minnesota Department of Health food manager license (or ability to obtain one within 60 days of employment * Possess knowledge of state and federal food handling requirements. * Commitment to excellent customer service and a strong work ethic * Experience in personnel management including hiring, supervision, evaluation, and succession planning. * Experience effectively managing a diverse workforce in a team-oriented environment * Ability to work on your feet for long periods of time and the ability to lift 25+ lbs regularly. * Must have a passion for food.
