Dorsey & Whitney Practice Group Director in Minneapolis, Minnesota

We are seeking a Practice Group Director to support and drive the success of our firm-wide Capital Markets, Emerging Companies, Healthcare Transactions & Regulatory, Mergers & Acquisitions, and Technology Commerce Practice Groups. Based in our Minneapolis or Salt Lake City office, this role will serve as a strategic advisor and liaison between Practice Group leadership and key administrative functions, including HR, Finance, Marketing, Technology, and more. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in the group s strategic initiatives, enhancing collaboration, and ensuring seamless integration of firm-wide resources to support client service excellence and business growth. Key Responsibilities Include: Human Resources/Talent Management - Supervise Practice Group paraprofessionals and other non-lawyer business professionals. - Facilitate the recruiting of lawyers and their effective integration into the Firm. - Ensure that all timekeepers are receiving appropriate mentoring and exposure to development opportunities. - Assist Practice Group Leaders and Legal Talent Management with workload management for all timekeepers. - Work with the Diversity and Inclusion team to facilitate achievement of related recruiting, development, promotion, and retention goals. - Collaborate with Practice Group partners and legal talent management team on associate and paraprofessional performance feedback and compensation determinations. Financial Management - Monitor, analyze and recommend improvements in the areas of timekeeper productivity, workload and staffing levels. - Collaborate with the Legal Project Management team to promote and implement policies and processes to enhance value. - Assist in the development and implementation of alternative fee pricing models. - Assess Practice Group financial performance by reviewing monthly financial results and present suggestions for focus and improvement. - Provide analysis and recommendations to leadership regarding the group s performance in areas such as utilization, headcount, revenue generation and expense management. - In conjunction with Finance, coordinate the annual setting of billing rates, billable hour targets and other budget items. Client Relations and Marketing - Facilitate the creation, maintenance, and distribution of client reports, legal budget tracking mechanisms and related client-facing solutions. - Collaborate with the assigned Marketing liaison to facilitate communication and cooperation with other Practice Groups, Client Teams and Industry Groups. - Confer with the Marketing liaison on activities relating to marketing budgets, sponsorships, conferences, and other group initiatives, and take an active role where appropriate. - Contribute business-side perspective to Marketing liaisons for responses to RFPs. Operations/Systems - Promote and implement the consistent and innovative use of technology and knowledge management resources across the platform. - Streamline processes and procedures within the Practice Groups. Internal Leadership - Assist in creating business plans for assigned Practice Groups and industry teams and assist with and monitor execution of such plans. - Promote cohesiveness, collaboration, and morale in Practice Groups. - Share and leverage timekeeper knowledge and experience within and between Practice Groups in order to add client value. - Support the Firm s commitment to diversity and inclusion through Practice Group operations. - Support the Firm s commitment to the ABA Challenge on Lawyer Well-Being. This range represents Dorsey s good faith estimate of likely compensation at the time of posting.
