This position will supervise and provide guidance to a team of research professionals who support clinical faculty, residents, and medical students pursuing research. Research projects vary and include clinical research, behavioral health research, quality improvement, implementation science, EHR-based research, and community projects that have a variety of funding sources. The role will work with the PBRN manager to develop training, standard operating procedures, and best practices to support this research. The position will also provide support and leadership to the development and facilitation of research projects within the PBRN and the expansion of the broader network. The employee in this position will have a self-starting work ethic to build awareness of learning practice-based research philosophies and methods, work to establish a collaborative research network, coordinate and implement research protocols, facilitate research studies, provide writing and editing support, and manage other assigned projects that support the research mission of the PBRN. The position requires research knowledge as well as flexibility and the ability to work on a wide variety of projects, including clinical research studies, practice-based research projects, and process improvement studies. This is a hybrid position and travel will be required to support multiple clinic locations. Annual attendance at a national conference may also be required. This is a 2-year position with the possibility of extension. This position is based out of Minneapolis, MN and is eligible for hybrid work from home and/or on campus work dependent upon individual performance and organizational need, though some regular on-site work will be expected. Because the University of Minnesota is a land-grant institution that serves the state, residing in Minnesota is typically required. Main Responsibilities Include: 40% Oversee Primary Care Research Activity: Manage Family Medicine Primary Care Research Activities Supervise Clinical Research Facilitator team Meet regularly as a team and individually with facilitators to review projects and timelines, provide mentorship, set expectations, and establish goals. Oversee day-to-day research and scholarship activities in clinics, including residency clinics and programs. Partner with clinic and program leadership and faculty to grow their research capacity, encourage collaborations, and provide needed resources. Assist with developing, implementing, and guiding activities related to process integration and improvement; apply these best practices to the work of the Research Services Hub. Review and manage proposals and recruitment requests submitted via the DFMCH Research Services Portal (working closely with Clinic Research Leads). 30% Practice-Based Research Network Coordination: Work with providers and other clinical staff to support research and scholarly activities at member/partner primary care clinics. Coordinate stakeholder meetings across the primary care clinics. Assist with developing tools, processes, and workflows for approvals and the lifecycle of a research project. Assist with implementation of clinical research projects. Assist with developing and coordinating a community and/or patient advisory group, including developing charters, recruiting members, creating meeting agendas, ensuring feedback loop on action items from prior meetings, making accommodations for members to attend meetings, and other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned 30% Facilitation of Research Integration and Practice Enhancements: Ensure protocols are ollowed, study activities are documented appropriately, and resolve issues that arise during day-to-day implementation of studies. Lead and guide faculty with study start-up activities (including preparation of IRB materials and data collection instruments). Recruit, screen, consent, and enroll subjects. Collect data, such as quantitative data and qualitative data via interviews/focus groups. Assist with design of REDCap databases, forms, and surveys. Organize and manage research study protocols, procedures, and workflow. Provide training on protocols, monitor and analyze progress, and provide direction and recommendations to other team members to meet project goals. Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory guidelines and manage regulatory documents. Manage project milestones and timelines including other assigned projects that support the research mission of the Department. Regularly meet with leadership and study teams to discuss and communicate progress. Connect clinician researchers to Department and care system resources and content experts. Attend regular meetings with key stakeholders to understand and anticipate research support needs. Assist with dissemination of results, including research manuscripts, posters, presentations, abstracts, reports, website content, and user guides. Organize and participate in research percolator meetings to generate research ideas and troubleshoot active projects. Expected Starting Salary Range: Upper $70's depending on qualifications and experience. Qualifications All required qualifications must be included in the application materials Required Qualifications: BA/BS in a related field with at least 5 years of clinical, behavioral or community-based research or an advanced degree plus at least 3 years of experience, or a combination of related education and work experience to equal 9 years. Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently, as a part of a team, and with changing priorities. Strong knowledge of Good Clinical Practices and Code of Federal Regulations. Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills. Previous supervision or management experience of research staff/team members. Demonstrated ability to manage and lead research teams and projects. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in a relevant field. Experience implementing research and/or QI projects in a clinical setting. Experience working with diverse populations. Experience recruiting, building, and retaining research teams/team members. Experience with University systems including REDCap, OnCore, and ETHOS. Experience with patient and/or community advisory groups. Experience with participant recruitment and retention in a clinical setting. Experience working on a multi-disciplinary team. Experience with electronic medical records (EHR). Familiarity with Practice Based Research Networks (PBRN) and/or primary care operations.
